Stories are incredibly powerful – their ability to teach, inspire, and create understanding is why we are so in love with storytelling. Most stories have a defining moment and so we’ve asked some of the most talented, insightful folks across a broad range of industries and markets to tell us about a defining moment in their story.

As a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, I had been treating my patients with the known modalities for my field. And I came to realize that I could add hypnotherapy as an additional way to help certain of my patients. I learned how to do hypnotherapy at the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, an organization of doctors, nurses, psychologists and social workers who are skilled in this form of treatment. In October 2021, I lost my job due to discrimination. While I had been a business owner, for over 10 years, my businesses until that pivotal life moment were simply additional streams of income. They were in no way generating the level of income necessary for enjoying financial stability. However, I committed to not panicking. Read more>>

During university years I came to understand the medical benefits, largely in terms of emotional and mental health , of reading great subversive literature. My strongest recall relates to the arrival of Celine’s Journey to End of the Night at a local bookstore. Read more>>

Ever wonder how people find their calling? I always thought only artists and the rare dedicated person were lucky enough to know what they wanted to do with their lives. Until one day, while I was in grad school to become a professor of medieval French literature, I had a game changing experience. I wasn’t happy in this career path and couldn’t figure out why since it checked so many boxes- studying history and culture, working with people, expanding goodness in the world through education. But one day in my apartment in New York City, I was having a serious “uh-oh” moment and out of nowhere I got an answer in the strangest way possible. I heard a voice. Inside my body. It didn’t belong to me. It had no gender. It said one thing only, but it was as clear as a bell. It said “acupuncture.” I sure got lucky because I adore my career and every day I get to go to work is an amazing day. Read more>>

I have been interpreting my own dreams for fifty years and for these last 26, I have helped others do so as well. In 2019 I was already feeling overwhelmed by the discourse that seemed to be increasing in our country when I was faced with an unexpected medical diagnosis, for a while the prognosis was somewhat uncertain. It really gave me an opportunity to think about what was truly important to me and to think about what I really wanted to accomplish in life. I could feel myself getting really discouraged and frustrated but decided that instead of sitting around and being upset about everything going on in the world, I wanted to find a way to change the things I could and to truly make a difference. My girls were both grown and out of the house and my husband was working full time. I held a degree in Psychology and Human Development, had worked in education while my kids were little and then in the fitness and wellness industry part time for over fifteen years. Read more>>

The first happened when I was in highschool. It was a cold and grey winter morning, I did not want to get out of bed. My mom tried to get me up while I hid under the cover. She said, “Life is like this! You study hard, get a job, work hard, and that’s life…” Upon hearing this, I was bummed out! I thought, “This can’t be all there is to life?!” Since then, I became obsessed with finding meaning in my life. Read more>>

Gabrielle Fuller sat down for coffee one morning with me and said “What if we start a business together? I want to be a Doula too and I want to become a CLC”. My heart was beaming because it was a dream to work alongside my sister, and even better was it that our passions had aligned. The Birth World is only for those called into it, for those who live to support women and their babies in all ways possible. This was our defining moment. The moment when the sun was so bright, and we just laid all of our dreams out on the table. Sunshine Births. Yes, we are Sunshine Births. Read more>>

On February 3, 2017 I suffered a massive heart attack at the age of 37. A bit of genetic disposition and stress in life lead to a widow maker heart attack that claims 99% of the people who are struck down by it. Prior to my heart attack I was in a hurry, always rushing to get life going because the old saying is life is short seems to be the common mentality. I fell prey to this line of thinking. Thinking that everything needs to be hurried. That there was no time to enjoy the big and small things. Read more>>

The defining moment of my life that ultimately set me on my path to create Neurosculpting was being hit by lightning on my 15th birthday. That traumatic incident led me to a life of seizures which became life-threatening as the years progressed. Western medicine had no answers for me. I was not considered epileptic so I didn’t qualify for any treatments or medications. Eventually, I was diagnosed with a brain stem seizure disorder connected to high states of stress. That set me on my path to study neuroscience to find a solution. The 5-step Neurosculpting meditation process was what I created in order to rewire my nervous system and increase its resilience so that I could heal my own seizure disorder. I broke through the seizures 17 years ago with this process and never had another once since. It’s been my mission to share this power nervous system rewiring with the world. Read more>>

Defining moments often come when we least expect them, and mine came in the form of a 43-year-old man named Ishmael. Ishmael, a loving father and dedicated engineer, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, a disease notorious for its aggressiveness and poor prognosis. From the moment we met, I was struck by his radiant energy and undying spirit, a stark contrast to the grim fate his condition typically spelled out. Read more>>
