We were lucky to catch up with Sara George recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sara, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Through YouTube tutorials and experimenting on my own, I’ve learned how to produce beats, record, and mix vocals using Logic Pro X

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is SARA GEORGE. I’m a singer, songwriter, and producer from Silver Spring, MD.
I started my music career in spring of 2019 with my debut single Dance Floor. I had been watching YouTube tutorials on how to make beats and record, mix and master using Logic Pro X, and also making a list of equipment I’d need to set up an at-home studio. I ended up starting out with the basics: a microphone, speakers, a midi keyboard, and a DAW interface. All of which I still use til this day to create my music.
These days I outsource mixing and mastering for my songs, but I still like practice mixing just so I have the knowledge of how to do it. And I’m most proud of being able to do everything on my own, with the exception of mixing and mastering. Having the skill to produce, write, and sing my own songs ensures that every song sounds like me and has my own unique touch on it.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is being able to share my gifts and talents with others. While I do enjoy creating my own art, I find the most fulfillment when I’m helping others bring their creative ideas to life. I’ve had people reach out to me for help with beats, songwriting, music videos, etc. And seeing the final product in something that I was able to take part in makes me really happy.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Something I think non-creatives may not understand is how much time goes into creating. And I didn’t really understand until I started making music myself. I would always wonder why artists would say “New music on the way!” but weeks, months, sometimes even years go by and we haven’t heard anything from them. But now that I’m on the side of creating music, I know that it’s not easy to put together a song. Especially when you’re a perfectionist like me. Sometimes I can sit on songs for months just tweaking little things here and there. Or sometimes I don’t feel confident to release a song yet and I have to walk away from it for a little while and then come back and try again. So I would tell any non-creative that any time a person releases a work of art to the public, just know it’s probably been in the vault for a while.
