We recently connected with Dexter Morrison II and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Dexter thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s talk about innovation. What’s the most innovative thing you’ve done in your career?
I’m a multifaceted artist who understands the power of symbolism. Incorporating symbolism with herbs has given me the capability and potential to enhance holistic healing. Infusing the elements and symbols into wellness essentials at Tribe of Dex makes a difference in the impact that these herbs will have. For example, I like to play music that sends out a certain frequency while a few of my favorite incense are being burned or essential oils are being diffused. This introduces the principle of vibration and aromatherapy into the equation, transforming the overall vibration of the experience!
There are symbols embedded throughout the brand that send signals as well. In the logo there’s a symbol depicting a mythical bird with its head turned backward, while its feet are facing forward, carrying an egg in its mouth. “Sankofa” translates to “go back and get it” or “return from the past and learn from it.” Learning from past experiences could help understand how to move forward promoting ultimate gratitude for the present moment.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m an overall healer, who uses music and herbs as mediums to promote healing with intention. As a boundless music artist, Dex Channels, I’ve adopted the same approach to my tea blends and other wellness essentials. In the studio, I always feel like there are ways to push creative boundaries and find different pockets that can be delivered in such ways that still promote the authenticity of me as an individual. Why should Rap sound a certain way? I have the same approach with holistic healing. Everyone’s journey is different! That’s why I love doing herbal consultations with clients to understand what herbs work best for them and their goals. Working at a nutrition center in my earlier years sparked the passion that I have for herbs. After spending hours researching herbs, supplements and putting together my own essential oil blends, it wasn’t long before customers were coming to the shop to ask me about what herbs should they use for their said ailment. Years later, I had my own ailments that I was able to correct and from there, Tribe of Dex Apothecary was birthed. Tribe of Dex, Divine Esoteric Xtraterrestrials, has been created to inspire truth and holistic for those returning back to their roots. This is a house of love, knowledge and understanding.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I am consistent, resilient and practical. These traits are needed to expand in life.
I first started with Tik tok, posting different tea blends, information and cold pressed juices that I was making at the time. I seen how the other social media platforms were following tik tok and reels were being favored more, so I started posting on the other platforms like Instagram and Facebook. I made sure to post at least 3 times a day and soon enough the numbers started pouring in. Not just numbers, but real people who want to learn more about herbs and holistic healing. There’s an audience for everybody, you just have to keep it true to yourself and get out of your own way. It took me 6 months to get out of my own way and finally open my online store. There will never be a “right time” so you just have to jump and trust the process. “The journey is the destination.” is a quote that I’ve heard a lot coming up but I now have a different understanding of it now. The journey is what has instilled these core values into me.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
Most definitely, I’ll list a few:
– Becoming supernatural by Joe Dispensa
– Ancient future by Wayne Chandler
– How to win friends and influence people by Dale Carnegie
Audio books:
– Think and Grow Rich – Napoleon Hill
– Neville Goddard speeches
Doing the mental alchemy and knowing that my will is greater than any program has been a tremendous factor in my success. Once the mind is operating on a certain wavelength, the body has no choice but to follow.
