We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brandi Tinoco a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Brandi, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
Becoming an entrepreneur is a risk in itself. I was running two businesses at one time and it started to become overwhelming. Being an event coordinator was taking away my Saturdays with family and the recovery from an event wasn’t always fun. I had to weigh out my pros and cons and made the decision to no longer pursue event planner/coordinator (unless it was for someone I knew). Now I’m solely focused on Bee’s Bites and Im loving it. I love that I can make people happy by making something sweet and delicious.
Brandi, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Well I am a newly founded home baker I started Bee’s Bites in 2022. I bake cakes, cupcakes, cookies, cheesecake, and many different types of treats and desserts. I love to try and make new things and have yet to back down from a challenge. The ONLY thing I will not try is working with fondant. Personally I’m not a fan of it on cakes and I don’t want to learn how to do it. What makes my cakes different from most bakers is I use whipped icing. Most bakers standard icing is buttercream, but here at Bee’s Bites buttercream is upon request. I am most definitely a people pleaser and I will do everything in my power to give you what you are asking for.
I am also a wife and a mother of 2 boys who also keep me busy most of the time. I love that I am able to be home with them and still be a boss. They are my why and keep me going to reach my full potential.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Word of mouth has definitely been the best source for new clients. People try my cakes at different events and when they ask my clients about the cakes/desserts they are quick to say where they get it from. I am blessed with some of the best clients.
Have you ever had to pivot?
My dad took care of my son while I was working for my uncle as the dispatcher for his AC company and when my dad passed in 2019 I had to quickly become a stay at home mom. Adjusting from having two incomes to only one was difficult, but we made it. Later on that’s when I decided I needed to do something to help out in any way and I became an entrepreneur. This is something I am very blessed to be able to do, because I can be home with my kids and still be able to do something I love.
