We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mikaila Jegtvig a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Mikaila, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Both my business and non profit were built after I found out my dad had lung cancer. I was working a full time job in Fort Collins where I was unable to spend the time I wanted to with my dad. In March, a month after we found out my dad was very sick, he ended up having a stroke. The night he was hospitalized and monitored, I spent hours building a website where I could begin taking on clients & also taking a percentage of the money I made and putting them towards my dads bills since I knew he wouldn’t be able to work. The next day, I showed my dad the website and told him I would be quitting my full time job because I wanted to spend time with him. His response was essentially, “I don’t need help with money daughter, how about we start helping others this way.”
My dads nickname was “Jet.” He was so caring, strong, loving and such an amazing teacher to me every single day. After my dad passed away, I knew that my small business idea was now going to turn into a small business that helps a non profit grow so that I could help others with all of the things we were struggling with. During the four months between my dad being diagnosed and passing away, I noticed so many things that we could’ve used assistance with. We were missing people in our corner helping us with the additional resources that we definitely could’ve used. The Jet Foundation helps cancer patients and their families with additional wellness, nutritional & financial resources & each campaign is ran based on the needs of the family.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
People who know me would say I am easy going, very creative & love to try and make the best out of any situation. I love to help others even if that means putting something else on my plate. My boutique marketing business focuses on helping small business owners grow their brand at an affordable cost. We offer social media marketing, design assistance, website creation & more! Plus, each client with us get the opportunity to decide if they would like to sponsor The Jet Foundation for a discounted package.
MJ Media is different from other businesses because it was built by individuals who truly want to see others grow. It also directly supports a non profit which means that each business owner can feel good about the services they are paying for. We are personable and professional and see your growth as a success just like you do!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy is to really sit down and listen to what my clients envision for their business. Our job is to grow their vision & help them put strategies into place without breaking the bank.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
I treat my team like they are my family. After all, they are helping me grow my dream. I have been apart of too many companies that treated me like I was replaceable and even if it was true, it didn’t motivate me one bit. Showing your team that you appreciate them and care about them in and out of work creates a team that wants to consistently learn and grow with you.
