We were lucky to catch up with Miguel Del Villar recently and have shared our conversation below.
Miguel, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
The story of how I came up with the idea for my business, a Virtual School Nurse Staffing Agency, is based on my experiences while working at a school district and facing a healthcare staffing shortage.
In the bustling city of San Diego, I dedicated myself to the noble profession of education, serving as a School Nurse for several years. My passion for nurturing young minds and providing essential healthcare services to students fueled my drive to make a positive impact in their lives.
The reality of the school nurse shortage in California after the pandemic only got worse. Many schools within the state were struggling to maintain adequate medical support for their students. The existing healthcare staff was stretched thin, and it was becoming increasingly difficult to address health concerns and provide timely care. The shortage was taking a toll on special education services as well. Students with unique learning needs and special requirements faced additional hurdles due to the lack of dedicated support.
Determined to find a solution, the idea of a virtual school nurse staffing agency came to mind. What if we could harness the power of technology to bridge the gap and ensure every student had access to top-notch healthcare services, regardless of their location?
The virtual school nurse staffing agency I envisioned wasn’t just a solution for general healthcare; it also aimed to offer specialized support to students with special needs. By integrating virtual credentialed school nurses with expertise in special education, we could ensure that each student’s individualized education plan was closely monitored and addressed, bridging the gap in services.
The logic behind the concept was evident. Virtual healthcare services were revolutionizing various industries, and it was high time we embraced this innovative approach in education. By creating a virtual school nurse staffing agency, we could transcend the limitations of physical presence and offer our expertise to schools across the entire state efficiently.
The thought of the potential impact of this idea filled me with excitement and a sense of purpose. It wasn’t just about solving a staffing problem; it was about transforming the lives of students and empowering schools with the resources to provide optimal care.
As we embarked on our journey with the virtual school nurse staffing agency, the impact on schools was evident from day one. This was more than just a business venture; it was a mission to ensure that no child’s health needs were ever compromised due to staffing challenges.
Miguel, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello, I am the founder and driving force behind the innovative venture called “Backstage Health:” a Virtual School Nurse Staffing Agency. My name is Miguel, and I am a passionate healthcare professional with extensive experience in both the education and medical fields.
During my time as a school nurse, I witnessed firsthand the challenges schools faced in providing comprehensive healthcare services to their students, particularly those with special needs. The shortage of healthcare staff was evident, and it was affecting not only the general health services but also the quality of special education support.
Motivated to make a positive change and address this pressing issue, I conceived the idea of a virtual school nurse staffing agency that would revolutionize the way schools access healthcare and special education services. The concept was simple yet powerful: to leverage technology to connect highly qualified and credentialed school nurses with schools across the state.
Backstage Health offers a range of services designed to solve the challenges faced by schools in providing adequate healthcare and special education services. Our main services include:

Any fun sales or marketing stories?
One of my favorite marketing adventures, but not the most successful, was when I decided to invest in a digital billboard advertisement for the company. I had tried various marketing strategies, including direct mail, social media ads, and pay-per-click, but I wanted to make a bold statement that would grab people’s attention. The idea of having our brand displayed prominently on a digital billboard next to the freeway sounded like the perfect way to create some buzz.
I carefully selected the dates and times for the billboard display, ensuring it fit within our budget and maximized visibility during peak hours. The location was strategically chosen, right next to the busy freeway close to my home, so I could easily go and take a picture of our advertisement in all its glory.
With anticipation and excitement, my wife and I embarked on our mission to witness the billboard in action. We parked ourselves on the freeway, eagerly waiting to catch a glimpse of our company on the digital display. However, hours passed, and to our surprise and disappointment, the billboard seemed to be elusive, never making its appearance during our vigil.
While the digital billboard may not have been our most successful marketing endeavor, it was a fun and memorable time with my wife and marked the exciting beginning of our business journey.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Building our audience on social media was a journey filled with learning, dedication, and creativity. When we started, we knew the importance of a strong social media presence to connect with our target audience and showcase our services effectively.
To engage our audience, we crafted a content strategy that focused on two key elements: educational value and human connection. We regularly posted about our services, highlighting the benefits of virtual school nurses and the positive impact they could have on students’ well-being and education. We also created articles that delved deeper into virtual school nurse services and other relevant topics.
An essential aspect of our social media strategy was aligning our posts with the school academic calendar. We made sure to share timely and relevant content that catered to schools’ needs during different stages of the academic year. For instance, during back-to-school season, we strategize our marketing and posts to back-to-school healthcare staffing needs.
Building a social media presence takes time and patience, and my advice to those starting their journey is to be consistent, authentic, and passionate about what you do. Identify your target audience, understand their needs, and create content that adds value to their lives.
