We were lucky to catch up with Nina Khurtsilava recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nina, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
“My parents played a crucial role in shaping my artistic path, and I owe much of my success to their unwavering support. My father, a remarkably talented artist himself, became my inspiration and mentor from an early age. His guidance and encouragement ignited my passion for art. Equally important was my mother, who stood by his side, supporting his artistic endeavors, and in turn, extended the same unwavering support to me.
During the 90s in Georgia, the prospects for artists were indeed challenging, as financial struggles were common in the artistic community. However, my parents’ unwavering belief in my abilities and passion provided me with the strength to pursue my dreams despite the hardships.
They not only embraced my decision to pursue art as a career but nurtured all my interests during my formative years. This unconditional support, spanning from my dreams of becoming an artist to my desire to study at the academy of arts, has been the foundation of my journey and the rightest thing they ever did.”

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a passionate artist and graphic designer who developed a love for art from a very young age. I honed my skills by studying at the Georgian Academy of Arts and Nikoladze Art College, specializing in various disciplines like graphics, fine art, book design, and graphic design. During my journey, I discovered my calling in painting murals, which has become my primary focus.
With over 15 years of experience working with clients, I take pride in my ability to address their diverse needs effectively. The versatility of my artistic style allows me to adapt to different projects, ranging from large murals for street art festivals to creating commercial works. My commitment to solving clients’ problems while bringing a unique artistic touch sets me apart in the industry.
I am most proud of my contributions to the street art scene and how my murals have enlivened public spaces. As an artist, my mission is to inspire and uplift communities through vibrant and thought-provoking creations.
To those interested in my work, I want them to know that I am deeply dedicated to my craft, and every project is approached with passion and creativity. My art is a reflection of my journey, and I aim to leave a positive impact on the world through my work. Whether it’s a collaboration with clients or connecting with art enthusiasts, I am committed to creating meaningful and memorable experiences through my art and graphic design.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Creating a supportive environment for artists and fostering a thriving creative ecosystem can have a profound impact on our society. As an artist who often paints large murals, I understand the physical and mental challenges involved, particularly during hot summers. One of the simplest yet most meaningful ways society can support artists is by showing empathy and consideration. If you see an artist working on a mural in your neighborhood, a small act like offering cold water or access to a nearby bathroom can make a significant difference in their comfort and well-being.
Beyond that, acknowledging and appreciating an artist’s work can be immensely encouraging. A kind word or expressing admiration for their creations can boost an artist’s confidence and motivation to continue producing meaningful art.
Moreover, supporting local art initiatives, exhibitions, and events can help build a strong creative ecosystem. Investing in public art projects and providing opportunities for artists to showcase their work can enhance the cultural vibrancy of a community and create spaces that inspire and uplift everyone.
In summary, simple acts of kindness, genuine appreciation, and a commitment to supporting local artistic endeavors can collectively nurture a nurturing and empowering environment for artists and creatives, enriching our society as a whole.”

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist and creative lies in the ability to translate my thoughts, emotions, and imagination into tangible expressions. Through my art, I can share my unique perspective with the world and connect with people on a deeper level. Witnessing the impact that my creations have on others, whether it’s evoking emotions, sparking inspiration, or sparking conversations, brings a profound sense of fulfillment.
Art allows me to continuously grow and evolve as an individual. The process of creating, experimenting with different techniques, and pushing the boundaries of my own creativity is incredibly gratifying. It’s a journey of self-discovery, where each new artwork becomes a testament to my artistic growth and the evolution of my style.
Ultimately, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the profound joy and sense of purpose I find in bringing something unique and meaningful into existence, leaving a lasting impact on both myself and those who experience my art.
