We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Savannah James a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Savannah , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Good Dog, DYNO holds a very special place in my heart because it’s aligned with my lifelong mission to help dogs achieve their full potential and become confident canines. When I was 18, I was searching for my purpose in life, but I felt lost and without direction. Then, the universe brought dog training into my life and it felt like fate. I was given the opportunity to learn about dog training and I fell in love with it. I found that training dogs gave me a sense of purpose and meaning. In fact, it saved my life. Now, I’m honored to be able to help save the lives of dogs in return. Good Dog, DYNO is particularly special to me because it was born out of the shared vision of three business partners, including myself, who wanted to make a positive difference in the lives of dogs everywhere.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Good Dog, DYNO is a dog training company that uses positive reinforcement and evidence-based interventions. We believe that dog training should be enjoyable and informative for both the owner and the dog. We focus on strengthening the bond between you and your dog by sharing activities, games, and affection. These methods can change the dynamic of your relationship with your dog in the best way possible. We offer group classes, private lessons, and board and train services. Our goal is to help owners teach their dogs everything from basic obedience to managing their emotions. We’re so proud of all the humans and dogs we’ve helped so far. Seeing videos and pictures of our clients’ success is the most rewarding part of our job. We want our clients to know that we genuinely care for your dogs. We love each dog who walks through our door for who they are. The dogs we’ve worked with have made us fantastic trainers and better people. If you’re looking for a team of compassionate dog trainers, then you’ve found your match here at Good Dog, DYNO!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
As the social media manager for Good Dog, DYNO, I know firsthand how important it is to build a strong presence on social media. By doing so, we’ve been able to reach thousands of people who might not have heard of us otherwise. I’ve found that creating “reels” is especially effective in growing our presence on social media. I’ve also worked hard to create a community of people who are interested in bettering their dogs’ behavior. We give out some helpful tips, but we try to keep it general so that our clients still need to come see us in person!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I first learned how to train dogs, I learned through a program that didn’t necessarily give me anything to build my resume with. I may have had the skills to be a dog trainer but I didn’t have the certifications/experience on paper to prove so. I was turned down by many companies in the first year of me being here in Denver, Colorado. That didn’t stop me- I knew what I wanted to do more than anything was be a dog trainer. With that being said, I pursued a job as a kennel technician at a local shelter and began to build my resume. Shortly after, I became a dog daycare attendant and worked my way up to manager within the first year of employment. I was happy but I still wasn’t where I wanted to be. When I was a dog daycare manager I became pregnant with my first child and was terrified that my career was over. I hid my pregnancy for 7 months and continued to work with the dogs. Once I finally revealed that I was pregnant I was moved to learn how to do grooming. This was awesome but it still wasn’t exactly what I wanted. But I didn’t give up. I continued to read about dog training & further my education while meeting with friends and family to help them with their dogs. Shortly after I had my son, I reached out to a local rescue and began training dogs for them. I would foster the dogs and train them to be the best that they could be in their short time with me. It was a fantastic experience which led me to seek employment with a dog training company. I was hired and became a very good trainer for that company. I loved it, but I wanted to be with my son just a little bit more. This is when my business partners proposed Good Dog, DYNO to me. We put a prime focus on work-life balance and our goals aligned perfectly. I immediately said yes and the three of us began this journey together. Although it hasn’t been easy, it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.
