We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Binx a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Binx, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
I love creating and am so proud to be an artist. It has taken a backseat as I expand my skills into UI and UX development and life is…well life! I never wonder about having a regular job, as I’ve been there and done that! I mostly wonder what it would be like to have my dream job and have been striving for it.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Binx, an artist, designer, and polychromatic soul. Born between, heaven and earth, I drip rainbows wherever I go! What is a polychromatic soul? To me, it’s someone who is influenced by various experiences and cultures, a multifaceted soul. I have been drawing for as long as I can remember, with my parents saying I started at the age of 2. I knew very early on that I wanted an illustration career. I feel most people recognize my style from the swirls and thick girls I create. I majored in illustration for my undergrad, but have been doing a lot of graphic design as of late. For most clients. I create visual solutions for marketing for print and web. I’m most proud of projects where I get to use my illustration skills and create for mom-and-pop brands. Helping genuine clients get their products out there is a great feeling.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I’d say I’m going through a pivot now. As the art world continues to become more heavily saturated, you really have to expand your skill set to stand out. I’ve been working on UX/UI design and looking to transition myself into the video game industry. I like to always strive for something and have various aspirations in life, so this pivot also feels natural. I’ve loved games as long as I’ve loved drawing and art, and look forward to breaking through in the industry soon.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I would say the need to express myself and find catharsis in that expression is what drives me. At the end of the day, the art I’ve enjoyed the most is the pieces I created that had no expectations to them. Just me letting go of the canvas. I will also say creating art that resonates with others is also another factor, but it should satisfy me first and foremost.
