RL , appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?

After retiring from the Military I started a consulting company. Helping business owners get their small business established and developed. I started working with Realtors to help them market their business to generate more business and after doing it for 11 years I decided to get into real estate myself.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I am a retired Army veteran. I served 17 years before being hurt in Afghanistan. I started RL Sheppard Consulting shortly after retiring from the army in 2012. I started the business because I felt that people had to have a way of starting and marketing their business without breaking the bank. I learned a lot about branding and marketing and developed ways to brand a business using SEO. I started working with Real Estate agents in 2016. I created marketing tools and developed strategies that would help realtors be seen more in the eyes of the public using social media and google. I became a Realtor myself because a lot of the agents I was working with told me that I had a natural talent for working with people. I believe that people are my passion and having the ability to help people and genuinely care about the people that I serve is my ministry.

Have you ever had to pivot?

Most people wouldn’t know that in 2018 I started having seizures because I had a lot of health issues. So, I started working out and lost 150 lbs. I wanted to live and it was simple as that. I made a lot of choices that would affect my business and life in a major way. I wanted my outer appearance to reflect my knowledge of business. I my mind its one and the same. Health is always gonna be wealth. I started focusing on my health and my business began to flourish and that is because I had more energy and my mind was a lot more clear.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?

I started my company off the strength of myself. I built the capital using the money from my music sales. Oh, Yea I am a singer also; did I mention that. Yes I used the money from the sale of my CD’s and shows. I did all this while building a successful Consulting Firm.
