We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Laelanie Larach a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Laelanie, thanks for joining us today. What is like to be an artist and how creativity develops in your artistic journey? What is your inspirations during the process?
I’m happy being an artist because it gives me the option to share my creative side with everyone that likes my colorful modern art. At a young age I began painting with oils on thick canvas and at that moment, I knew that my destiny was always going to be related to the art industry and be a painter for my entire life. Is a fun journey because art is my passion and I just love to stay at my art studio painting, enjoying every minute of the process, creating different art styles that includes coastal paintings with palm trees or paintings of butterflies that reflects my hispanic background and the beauty of our natural surroundings. My source of inspiration behind my paintings is always related with the ocean and natural landscapes that blends together into one masterpiece.
Laelanie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was born in Honduras a beautiful country located in Central America that gave me so much inspiration during my artistic career, as I mention before at a young age I began painting with oils and charcoal and it was my way of expressing inner thoughts and just following my dream on becoming a recognize artist. It was this moment at a young age that I knew I’m going to be a painter during my entire life, and I just love it. When I moved to Miami my main goal was to follow my dream of having my own art gallery and be able to sell my original oil paintings to art collectors. At first, I was exhibiting at other art galleries and doing live art shows. It was a tough journey and I’m proud to say that I did everything by myself, my biggest goal was also part of Art Basel, and my dream came true when I was doing my solo art exhibitions, it was inspirational to see my paintings at Art Basel and art collectors buying my artwork during the art shows. Another of my goals and the most important one was to have my own art gallery, as years passed, I was able to open Laelanie Art Gallery, and with a lot of determination and perseverance I was able to achieve my dream.
Art has played a huge role in my life, and it gives me the option to be creative in my artwork, each original oil painting is hand painted with vibrant bold colors that are fun to use while I’m painting, because they always cheer me up and sometimes, I like to use coastal colors that includes deep shades of blue along with turquoise and other of my favorite colors that you will see on other art collections. You can see my new art collection of coastal paintings; they have a different art style with a relaxing energy around huge ocean waves clashing together inside an underwater world of dreams and faith.
My favorite medium in my paintings are oils on thick canvas, I been using oils for years and is fun to use bright vibrant colors when I’m creating a tropical modern painting with palm trees or butterflies! Colors play an important role in my life and without colors life is nothing, this is why I like to use tropical colors in my oil paintings, they always brighten up my day.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is to share my artwork with people from different parts of the world and to see their reaction when are buying my paintings. Also is nice to be a creative artist because you let your imagination flow when you are painting, art is my passion and is a lovely experience to be an artist.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
They should support every artist out there, sharing they artwork on social media and buying their paintings. Or do more art show here in Miami to encourage a younger generation of artists to follow their dreams and do what they just love!
