Poonam Patel is a young entrepreneur and the founder of Urban Loop Studio, a design studio based in Dallas, TX. Her background and upbringing played a significant role in shaping her passion for designing dream homes, especially for strong and independent women of our generation who care about their experience at home and desire to make it more functional, beautiful and a reflection of their personal style.

Poonam’s childhood was spent living in a motel room from 3rd grade until she graduated high school, and later shared an apartment with roommates in college. She never had a beautiful space of her own to live in, and this led her to realize the impact your environment can have on you, especially the place you rest and recharge in- your home. She realized the importance of well-designed and functional spaces for one’s well-being and mood. Poonam saw designing as a way to improve people’s lives through functional floor plans and empower people to reach their dreams by living in a home that is designed to inspire and bring out the best in you. Her goal is to eventually make design available to everyone, not just those who are financially well-off.
Through her business, Poonam offers home design, floorplan, and luxury finish selection services. One of the most challenging periods in my life was when I decided to pursue a career in architecture. I was passionate about design and creating spaces that could positively impact people’s lives. However, I struggled with seeking approval from others. This need for validation stemmed from a trauma response and a desire for words of affirmation as my love language.
As I embarked on my journey in architecture, I faced skepticism and doubt from various people. Some didn’t believe I could be successful in this field or obtain a degree. At work, there were those who questioned my abilities and contributions, even suggesting that my early achievements were not solely my own.
Despite encountering naysayers and discouragement, I chose to persevere. I realized that seeking validation from others was not the key to my success. Instead, I focused on self-belief and sought out mentors who could provide genuine support and guidance. These mentors became my allies and helped me navigate the challenges I faced.
Over time, I learned that being resilient didn’t mean constantly propelling myself through distressing situations. Rather, it meant setting myself up for success and viewing mistakes as opportunities to grow and innovate. I embraced accountability and used setbacks as stepping stones to improve and achieve my vision.
Whenever I hit rock bottom, it was my unwavering vision of creating healing and thriving spaces for others that pulled me out of despair. The thought of being a dream home designer, helping women achieve their aspirations by providing them with empowering spaces, fueled my determination.
In the end, I refused to let anyone or anything hinder my dreams or purpose. I understood that there would always be doubters, but I learned to tune out their voices and stay true to my passion. With resilience, perseverance, and a clear vision, I overcame obstacles and embraced my unique path, ultimately becoming the best version of myself.
My journey taught me that seeking approval from others is not as crucial as believing in oneself. When you are driven by a strong purpose and surround yourself with supportive mentors, resilience becomes a natural byproduct.
