We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jackie Moranty a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jackie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
My sixth season was a labor of love. It was all about wildlife conservation and the diseases that affect wildlife. I really got into that season because I don’t think that people truly understand how delicate our ecosystems are or that the extinction of one species can essentially bring down a whole ecosystem.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started podcasting during the pandemic. At that time, I was a research scientist working to find vaccines and cures for Covid-19. As the pandemic progressed and the misinformation became more widespread, I felt the need to bring valid information to people who didn’t understand how disease works. My show is very focused. It’s very science based and I don’t have a lot of chatter or superfluous information mixed in. I try to teach people about the diseases and global crises that we are facing now or that we may face in the future.
I’m very proud of this podcast. I’ve worked very hard to make sure that I give valid information to my listeners. I list several references in my show notes that are relevant to the topic and my listeners are welcome to read through them to find any information that they’re curious about.
I also make myself available to my listeners. I try to encourage them to ask questions if they don’t understand the things that I’m talking about.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I really want people to learn from my podcast. I want them to think past what they see on social media and search for the answers. I would really love it if everyone knew how to read a white paper and get the information they wanted out of it.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
About once every six months, my numbers drop. I have a very loyal base, but there are times when I do just want to give up. I put a lot of work into each episode, and when the numbers drop, I feel like it’s all for nothing.
Then, something changes. Maybe the weather, the seasons, the stars align, I don’t know, but something changes and my numbers jump again.
That’s when I feel like I should keep going.
