We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jose Guerrero Galvan . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jose below.
Hi Jose , thanks for joining us today. The first dollar you earn in a new endeavor is always special. We’d love to hear about how you got your first client that wasn’t a friend or family.
After doing most of my first work with friends and family, I scrolled through my social media and noticed a message in my DM. It was from a stranger asking for my rates,I remember reading the message over and over again. I was and still am on my photos speaking for themselves, selling themselves. After typing and retyping my response I finally sent the message, sending a questionnaire of what the potential client wanted to accomplish. After meeting and setting the goal we closed and had a blast photographing my first official photoshoot.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into photography thanks to a high school photography class. It was my senior year, I signed up for the class as an easy pass. It was my last year and I needed an art credit, I couldn’t draw or sculpt so I signed up for the class thinking it was going to be something I can slack in and pass easily. I ended up falling in love with the photography and the rest is history. I pride myself in my ability to be versatile, from weddings, senior portraits to concerts and track covers. Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Easily word of mouth. Companies can spend hundreds of dollars marketing their products on many platforms but nothing beats making a client so happy that they share, tag and when the word photography is brought up youre the first that comes to mind. The majority of my clients were referenced by previous clients of mine.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Have you ever looked back on old photos and felt nostalgic or get flushed with emotion from the photo in front of you? Maybe a party or event you were at. As a parent I look back of photos of my son when he was born and get bombarded with all the emotions I felt that day. That feeling is what I find the most rewarding. I put myself in the mindset that I want that feeling for my clients on every photo I take, whether it’s a year or 20 years from now.
