We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Anne Brunache. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Anne below.
Anne, appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The story of how Stand Out School of Music came to be is truly close to my heart. It all started during my high school years when I created the Stand Out Glee Club with a simple yet powerful vision in mind – to provide a safe haven for children where they could freely express themselves through the arts, just as music had been my refuge.
Growing up in Haiti, I was fortunate that my parents introduced me to the world of music, which became my true passion and form of self-expression. I experienced firsthand how music positively impacted my life, allowing me to find my voice and be true to myself. However, I realized that not everyone had the same opportunity, and that troubled me deeply.
With Stand Out Glee Club, I wanted to break barriers and create an inclusive space where children from all backgrounds could have access to music education. Music should not be a luxury, but a fundamental right for every child. I poured my heart and soul into this endeavor, striving to improve my own skills to provide a better experience for the young musicians.
Witnessing the transformation in the children who joined the Glee Club filled me with immense joy and excitement. Their faces would light up as they explored their creativity and discovered the magic of music. I knew then that this was not only a worthwhile endeavor but a mission that I was destined to pursue with all my heart.
As Stand Out Glee Club evolved into Stand Out School of Music, the core values remained unchanged – to empower young minds, to provide a nurturing environment, and to offer a unique approach to music education. It’s not just about teaching music; it’s about fostering a love for music and empowering the next generation to stand out and shine brightly.
This journey has been deeply fulfilling, and I am grateful for the opportunity to share my passion for music with our students, just as it was once shared with me. Stand Out School of Music continues to be a place of inspiration, growth, and community, and I am excited to see how it will touch the lives of many more aspiring musicians in the future.
With each lesson, with each smile, I am reminded that we are making a difference in the world – one note at a time.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Absolutely! As a new small business in a competitive market, resilience continues to be a defining trait in our journey. One particular story that highlights this resilience occurred early on when Stand Out School of Music was just starting.
In the initial months, we faced several challenges, from attracting clients to establishing our presence in the music education landscape. The market is saturated with well-established music schools, and breaking through is no easy feat. Despite our passion and dedication, we encountered skepticism and doubt from potential clients who were already loyal to other institutions.
During this time, we constantly remind ourselves of our mission and the unique value we bring to the table. We know that we have something special to offer, but communicating that effectively to our target audience is a daunting task. It’s hard not to feel disheartened, but we refuse to give up.
Instead of being discouraged, we embrace the challenges and use them as stepping stones to refine our approach. We seek feedback from every interaction, learning from both successes and setbacks. We diligently analyze the market and identify areas where we can differentiate ourselves.
Through sheer determination and perseverance, we are gradually gaining traction. Our resilience allows us to weather the initial storm and build a strong foundation for our school. We reach out to the community, collaborate with local organizations, and engage with our target audience through various channels.
Our resilience has become our driving force. We know that success will not happen overnight, but we are willing to put in the hard work and stay true to our vision. Over time, our efforts are paying off, and we are attracting more students who believe in our mission and recognize the value of our services.
The journey of a new small business is undoubtedly challenging, but our resilience continues to be our secret weapon. It teaches us to embrace setbacks as opportunities for growth, to adapt and innovate in the face of competition, and to remain steadfast in pursuing our dreams.
As we continue to grow and evolve, we carry with us the spirit of resilience that defines our journey. It reminds us that every obstacle is an invitation to become stronger, more creative, and more passionate about the impact we can make in the lives of our students.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A valuable lesson I had to unlearn was the belief that things not going my way was a sign of failure. This mindset was deeply ingrained during my early years, especially as a first-generation female from Haiti navigating the path of entrepreneurship. Growing up, I was always taught to strive for excellence and perfection, and any setback or deviation from my planned course felt like a personal failure.
The backstory to this lesson unfolds during the early stages of starting Stand Out School of Music. As a new small business in a competitive market, I encountered numerous challenges and setbacks that tested my resilience and self-belief. There were moments when things didn’t go as planned, and I would question my abilities and doubt the viability of my dream.
However, through these experiences, I began to realize that setbacks and failures were not signs of my inadequacy but rather opportunities for growth and learning. Each challenge was a chance to reassess my strategies, refine my approach, and gain valuable insights to better serve my students and community.
I slowly unlearned the notion that success was solely defined by achieving my initial goals. Instead, I embraced the journey itself as an invaluable learning process. I started to celebrate the progress I made, no matter how small, and acknowledged that each step forward was a step closer to realizing my vision.
The turning point came when I reframed my perception of failure. I started to see it as a stepping stone towards success rather than an endpoint. I understood that failure was a natural part of any endeavor, and the most successful individuals often faced numerous setbacks before achieving greatness.
This shift in perspective allowed me to embrace a growth mindset. I learned to approach challenges with curiosity and an eagerness to learn from them. I sought feedback, sought mentorship, and surrounded myself with a supportive network of like-minded individuals who encouraged me to persevere.
Through unlearning the fear of failure, I found the courage to take more risks, experiment with new ideas, and push past my comfort zone. As a result, Stand Out School of Music continued to evolve and grow, and I became more confident in my abilities as an entrepreneur and educator.
Today, I see every challenge as an opportunity for growth and self-improvement. I appreciate that the road to success is filled with twists and turns, but each experience has made me more resilient, adaptable, and passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of my students.
Unlearning the notion that failure was synonymous with inadequacy was a transformative experience. It allowed me to embrace the unpredictable nature of entrepreneurship, celebrate the lessons learned from each setback, and maintain an unwavering belief in the vision that drives Stand Out School of Music forward.
