Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kathleen O’Heron. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Kathleen, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
Probably the most significant moment occurred during one of my first trips abroad to Italy when I was 7 years old. As a child, I was painfully shy around strangers, but I distinctly remember being on a train with my parents and being captivated by the coolest woman I had ever seen. She wore a super chic outfit with a very 90s, fuzzy Italian-made scarf. I kept whispering to my mother that I really wanted to buy one just like it by the end of our trip.
Upon reaching the last train stop, to my surprise, the woman approached me and draped the beautiful scarf around my neck. In broken English, she said it suited me much more than her and walked off the train. I will never forget that moment of generosity and feeling seen by a complete stranger. I cherished that scarf for years. I hope someday I have the opportunity to give a gift to someone that is just as meaningful to them as that scarf was to me.
Kathleen, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
SomewhereWithKat is all about my solo adventures, whether they happen abroad or in my own backyard. I wanted a platform to share my stories, unique stays, things to do and inspire others to embark on their own solo journeys and feel empowered while doing so.
After sharing my solo adventures with numerous women and gaining a newfound sense of independence and self-assurance that accompanied each solo date or trip, I knew I wanted to share more of these experiences online. My goal is to inspire others through videos and visual storytelling online on how to embrace the beauty of solo exploration, the joy of travel, and the possibility of going on a date or two while discovering the world on their own terms.
If anyone wants to connect and have me review an exciting and upcoming experience around the LA area or in their city, feel free to reach out to me here [email protected] with more details.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Finding and joining Facebook groups where you can connect with other solo travelers, receive support, and even find jobs online which is an incredible resource! It’s amazing to see how many active groups exist, and the best part is that they are completely free to join, making them an underutilized tool that can connect you to a like-minded community within seconds. When searching for a group to join, I like to use popular keywords in my niche, find an account with highly active members, and review previous threads in the chat to gauge the usefulness of the information.
Currently, some of my favorite Facebook groups are:
Jobs & Careers (Sponsored by Dreamers & Doers)
Travel Meet Ups – The Solo Female Traveler Network
Social Media Influencers – TikTok & Brand Deals
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Being able to express myself, share parts of my world with others across the world and finding a community that adds value to the content I’m putting out. I love what I do and getting a chance to showcase my creativity adds value to living my life authentically online!
