We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kentrice Schexnayder a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kentrice, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump right into the heart of things. Outsiders often think businesses or industries have much larger profit margins than they actually do – the reason is that outsiders are often unaware of the biggest challenges to profitability in various industries – what’s the biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
Some of the biggest challenges in profitability are getting people to understand that original art is a luxury and an asset therefore it can be costly.
People tend to look at art as “play” so they rarely understand the numbers associated with pricing.
they don’t see the value in the process of creating.
Also because being a creative is somewhat of a service and mostly has to be done by the Artist.
We can lose a lot of money in time spent on one piece, because of that,
we have to factor time into the cost which is something that is often misunderstood by an uninformed collector.

Kentrice, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I initially took an interest in art at the age of 6 hence where the number comes from in my brand name. I was fascinated with the creation of coloring books.
I started to practice drawing at that age and had gotten extremely good at it.
I went to college to study the business side of art while I worked a full time job but still didn’t know how I could make a profit from my art because I had no clue who or where to find collectors.
I wasn’t raised around anyone or ever seen anyone in my life turn that into a career so I was confused as to where to even start.
I graduated college and started working at the postal service mad a good living but I hated my job.
I stayed there for over 5 years and I ran into hard times due to my wages being garnished.
It was a time in my life that I had lost everything so I decided to quit and start working on figuring out a career in the Artist industry.
A guy I knew from grade school was opening a restaurant and needed a mural on his walls, so he reached out and we got to work.
As his restaurant became popular so did my art.
the mural became a prime staple inside of the restaurant and people would take pictures by it all the time. That lead me to getting more mural jobs and finding more art collectors.
I then became a highly sought after artist in New Orleans.
My ability to take what someone was thinking and my creativity and skill set and make it visible is what set me apart from many other artists also my passion can be vividly seen in my work.
I am most proud of my ability to stay afloat working as a full time artist, also overcoming everything I once doubted about an art career. Im also proud that I’ve inspired many people, artist and youth to follow their dreams.
I want people to know that Your hard work will never return to you void. It takes time it’s not easy but passion and purpose makes it all worth the process.
My mission is to use my art to bring awareness to worldly issues, to heal and inspire. to shine light on what makes us all human to bring people back to relatable times and to push them forward in the mind.
My brand represents the people and the power we possess if we live directly from inside out.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience on social media by working with and for a few popular influencers.
I make sure I always put my best foot forward when creating so that people want to continue to follow my art.
I would say to a person who’s just starting to build a social media presence, to always network and collaborate with others on social media.
add value to the people who come to your page and make content regularly.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
What helped me build my reputation was being good at what I do and having the ability to do some things very well better than most others
