We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Javante Battle a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Javante, appreciate you joining us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
My first defining moment in my professional career happened when I was laid off from my corporate job due to the 2020 Pandemic, but in order to share the significance of this moment I have to tell you the backstory. During this moment in time I had been practicing my work for 2 & half years in a “hobby fashion”, I worked a full time job from 9 to 5 so the only time I could spend on my practice was on the weekends. At the time my wife and I were “in the trenches” so to speak with parenthood, we have 4 children total and during this time our two youngest were infants- 13 months apart- with the older two being 9 and 4. So home life for us was extremely busy making it difficult to carve out time for ourselves let alone any other activities outside of work and household responsibilities, but we found a way.
Leading up to the company lay-off I was seeing 4-5 clients per month which I was happy about but it was no where near the volume we needed to earn a living for a family of 6, so when COVID19 hit the US economy I started to get worried. My corporate job was a business to business model so as the economy became affected by CV19, our work decreased, this is what eventually led our company to lay-off 1,200 employees overnight. For me this was a big hit because this was my 3rd company lay-off in the last 4 years, all due to company downsizing and restructuring- nothing within my control. Now at this point you can imagine the emotional and mental state I was in with the responsibility of providing for my family weighing on my back.
As I sat around contemplating what we were going to do I kept hearing “make room for your gifts”, since this was the 3rd company lay-off in 4 years I took that as a sign from the Universe telling me that corporate America was not where I was suppose to be, and I believed that. So this was my defining moment, with no established book of business that I could completely lean on to support my family, I took a leap to go all in with my practice and start sharing my work with those in my local community. Two years later I’m happy I made that decision because our lives and the lives of those we work with on a weekly basis has completely changed.
Javante, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m originally from California and moved to Arizona in 1999 with my mother and sister & I’ve lived in The Valley ever since. I’m currently married to my high school sweetheart who I met when we were 15, we now have 4 children and operate our healing practice together.
I found the practice of Reiki because I was searching for ways to reach higher states of consciousness. Before experiencing Reiki and getting into it, I was fully committed to my Religious Faith. Over time though I began to ask questions and felt myself no longer growing and hitting a “ceiling” so to speak, hence my desire to reach higher states of consciousness. Overtime I found myself learning and studying meditation, chakras and the internal systems of the human body. I then found my first Reiki teacher through a group chat and he just radiated this sense of peace and joy, so I reached out and asked him what he does for a living and he said Reiki. After going back and forth through email discussing what Reiki is I decided to book my first session with him to experience it, the kicker was he lived in Texas at the time and I was in Arizona. So my first experience with Reiki was from a distance through Skype, which served to shatter my belief around “what’s possible”, energy is not bound by time or space. In that first session I felt external and internal movement from the crown of my head to the soles of my feet, I felt lighter and grounded in my body, the next few days after I experienced extreme clarity. Two weeks go by and I say to myself: “Lets see if he can repeat the process”, because if something is authentic and real, it should have the ability to be reproduced. So I book my second session and same thing happens, I feel everything from the crown of my head to the soles of my feet! At that moment I knew I needed to learn this art so that I could share it with the people in my world.
So I received my first Reiki attunement in August of 2017, 3 months later I met my second teacher here in the valley who would teach me Qigong for an entire year in 2018 and attune me again in October of 2018. From there I began practicing and honing my skills and in August of 2019 I received my Master level training and certification. In late 2020 my wife and I began teaching Reiki to empower and inspire our community that we have internal power to change our lives for the better.
In our work we focus on bringing balance and harmony to an individual by connecting to their energy field and removing stagnant energy and blockages through energetic techniques. Whether someone is experiencing a physical, emotional, mental or spiritual imbalance- Reiki is a powerful and effective tool to correct it. Not only do we offer relaxing in person sessions, we offer distance healing which means we don’t have to be physically present to connect to someone’s energy in order to help them, I offer spiritual readings which provides guidance to specific questions a person has, and we also offer house/space clearing and blessings, our environment where we live and work becomes extremely congested with energy and we help to clear that away.
Disclaimer: We are not medical physicians and do not provide medical diagnosis. We recommend seeing a medical physician if anyone is experiencing any health complications. Reiki is a non-invasive healing technique that uses energy to bring healing to the body.
We’ve been able to help many of our clients overcome a number of challenges ranging from infertility, depression and anxiety, chronic pain, insomnia, mental confusion, dissociative disorders to mundane everyday challenges.
What sets us apart from other healers is our approach to healing and the way we connect with our clients, we dont stop serving and showing up once the transaction is complete. We take the time to engage with our clients after our initial session to make sure that they have the support they need in order to fully step into their power of healing.
I’m most proud of the foundation my wife and I have laid for new and existing clients as well as our new and existing students. This is a true community that has cultivated a safe space to be open, vulnerable and transparent with no judgement. It doesn’t matter who you are, or where you come from, if your intention is pure and centered around growth and love then you’ll find a home within this community.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe being authentic in my approach and expression, consistent in showing up to perform, and being open to help and serve has built the reputation that I have.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Under promising and over delivering has been my way, so when I work with a client and they experience my service they naturally begin sharing my work. Word of mouth has built my practice to what it is today and is still the strongest leg of client acquisition for us.
