We were lucky to catch up with Michael Whitley recently and have shared our conversation below.
Michael, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I have a list of 6 things that I believe it takes to be successful.
1. Hard work
2. Patience
3. Sacrifice
4. Consistency (consistency to me, isn’t just going out there and doing the same thing over and over. What I mean by consistency, is when you’re having a day or week that’s not going your way, you still get out an provide the best service and craftsmanship you can.
5. Discipline (discipline isn’t just something I’ve learned growing up, but it was also instilled in me while I was in the Army. What I mean by discipline is, even on the days “you don’t want to get and do it, you still get up, go out there, and get it done.
6. Self confidence

Michael, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
We want every client to know that the time & money they invest in us, is an investment in the quality, reliability, safety & health of THEIR FAMILY. We want them to know this is true because every dollar they invest is in a solution that STAYS IN THEIR HOME for years to come.
So we want them to know that the majority of the investment is in their future and not only the job we did today.
We also want them to know that we believe their family is worth that investment.
Finally, we want to remind them that the only product we sell is SERVICE.
Parts, labor, truck, tools, driving, gas, insurance, communication, keeping their history is ALL part of the service. When a business calls about an ice machine, walk-in cooler/freezer, or any equipment in their restaurant being down, they know that All American HVAC Services will ease their mind in knowing that we will handle the situation. The same goes for residential HVAC as well. We don’t just see our customers as a number, we treat just like family.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
I use to work maintenance for one of Honda’s manufacturing plants. As I worked there, I would work a lot of over time to funnel money into my business. Then when it came time to leave my safety blanket “Honda,” I made that leap of faith and haven’t looked back since then.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I grew up in south Texas, Victoria to be exact. My neighbor was know for gangs, drugs, and violence. I was raised by a single mother, no male mentor for a while, then we moved to Alabama when I was in the 9th grade. Once I graduated high school my family went back down to Texas. I stayed for the sole reason that I didn’t want to get involved with what some of my friends had going on. So, yes, at the age of 18 I was in Alabama all by myself. So, let me give y’all a little back story, no one in my family graduated high school. So, I was the first one in our family to do that, then I wanted a degree, so I pursued HVAC and refrigeration because it was something everyone needs. At that time I was married and raising my boys all while working 12 hour shifts and going to a community college. Guess what, it took me a good 8 years to obtain that AAS in HVAC and Refrigeration, but I did it. I joined the military when I was 20 just so I could get my college paid for. Yes, I’ve seen things at a young age that children shouldn’t have to see or experience. Yes, I didn’t have my dad in my life, but you know what I did, I seen where I didn’t want to be instead of using it as an excuse as to why I can’t do this or that. With that self motivation, because I had no support from anyone at all, I was able to achieve my goal I had set for myself.
