We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Morgan Jones. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Morgan below.
Morgan , appreciate you joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
In order to be successful I believe it takes two things, faith and hard work. You have to know this is going to work with or without validation. Being successful means being committed, learning from the journey, having fun along the way, thinking positively, changing your perspective, being honest with yourself, limiting distractions, and ongoing planning, if something doesn’t work it is not over it’s simply just a redirection
When covid-19 hit in March 2020 I was furloughed from my media job I remember not knowing what to do, or what was coming next. I thought everything I worked so hard for was over, but deep down I knew that meant something greater was going to come from that. September 2020 I applied for my LLC and started my brand/business Jonesmorgskc and a year later there I was with my own creative arts studio doing photography and videography.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Morgan Jones. Growing up I played basketball, in high school I was in a marching band, and I also played the piano, violin, and drums. I was the only girl on the snare line in high school, I played PG (point guard) and SG (shooting guard) during my 7 years of playing basketball, I taught myself how to play the piano thanks to YouTube and I also played the violin in elementary school.
Getting into the industry all started when I attended Paseo Academy School of Fine and Performing Arts during my last two years of high school where I took a broadcast journalism class and fell in love with media. When I graduated high school I knew exactly what I was going to study in college which led me to get my BS: Mass Media with an emphasis in Multimedia Journalism. As far as discipline goes I give a lot of that credit to doing marching band in high school. My band teacher was one hell of a teacher.
Remembering different cadences, dances for performances, placement on fields/stages, rudiments, etc set me up early for structure. To set high standards for yourself is to always strive to be the best version of yourself and that is something I carried on. No matter what I get myself into I always strive to do the best at it or be the best at it. I feel like my love for my craft really developed over time during every phase of my life. Whether I was singing for the church, African dancing, playing sports, playing instruments, being in performances, writing poems and raps for fun.
You craft love by identifying things and causes people already love and then picking the ones that resonate with your brand. I provide photography, videography, editing, writing, storyboarding, and production assistance. I help my clients with their visual, imagery, and sometimes personal problems. What sets me apart from others is the way I connect with my clients and my eye. When it comes to client personal problems its always I have never been in front of a camera like this before or I have never done a photoshoot before so making people feel comfortable is a high priority for me.
I am most proud of turning my studio idea into reality. Owning a creative arts studio in my hometown is the best feeling ever and it’s only been a year with year two on the way, I’m feeling more confident than I have ever been.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
A lot of people would see my posts on Instagram back when I was in college so from 2014 up until now I was always posting what I was doing media-wise. My classes, my extracurricular activities that involved media, media conventions I went to, traveling out of town networking, and posting content.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
One word, ownership.
