We recently connected with Tamika Thomas and have shared our conversation below.
Tamika, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
Going from idea to execution is the hardest part of business. Many people including I spend too much time in the planning stage, and they never fully launch. I remember stumbling across a Gray Vee live and he said, “ideas are trash execution is gold.” That changed how I moved in business. I will provide all entrepreneurs in the planning stage a simple blueprint I use to take action.
The first step in launching any business is to have a solid idea. This idea should be something that you are passionate about and that fills a need in the market. I pray every day that my ideas and business are the solution someone is looking for. Once you have your idea, the next step is to research your market. This means understanding your target audience, your competition, and the industry trends.
After you have a solid understanding of your market, the next step is to create a business plan. This plan should outline your vision, mission, and goals for your business. It should also include a marketing plan, financial projections, and an operational plan. Don’t overcomplicate this step. Sometimes my business plans are written out in my journal.
Once you have your business plan in place, it’s time to start setting up your business. This includes registering your business with the government, obtaining any necessary licenses or permits, and setting up your business infrastructure (i.e. website, social media accounts, etc.).
The next step is to start building your team. This includes finding the right employees or contractors to help you achieve your goals. You’ll also need to start building relationships with potential partners, suppliers, and customers. I am grateful to partner with trusted family and friends, even past clients have become team members. Sometimes your resources are closer than you realize.
Finally, it’s time to launch your business. This means putting your marketing plan into action, reaching out to potential customers, and generating revenue. I still reach out to 25 potential clients via the DM’s. It goes down in the DM’S. It’s important to remember that launching a business is an ongoing process. You’ll need to continually evaluate your strategies and adjust them as needed to ensure your business is successful.
Tamika, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a resilient woman who has faced numerous challenges throughout my life but has never given up. Some of those challenges include the death of a child, childhood trauma, divorces, and health concerns. I am a devoted wife and mother of eight, and have made a name for myself as a successful podcaster, CEO of Tuesday with Tamika coaching and consulting, author and mentor to many. With six published books under my belt, and currently working on 7 and 8. I started by volunteering and grow that passion to help into a full-blown business.
Through life visioning, discipline and not being afraid to tell my story my coaching programs help transform lives of women all over the world. I help women become H.E.R healed, elevated, and restored. I fully live and embody my tagline “live a life to inspire and not impress.”
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Transparency and authenticity are two key qualities that can help build a brand’s reputation in the marketplace. By being transparent, coach helps me to openly communicate with its customers, providing them with information about its products, services, and operations. This, in turn, helps to build trust and credibility with customers, and clients who are more likely to view the company as honest and reliable. Authenticity is also important, as it allows me to create a genuine connection with its customers. By being true to its values and principles, a company can demonstrate its commitment to its customers and build a strong emotional bond with them. This can lead to increased loyalty, as customers are more likely to feel a sense of loyalty to a company that they believe shares their values and beliefs.
Combined, these two qualities can help to build a brand’s reputation in the marketplace. By being transparent and authentic, a company can build trust, credibility, and loyalty with its customers, which can translate into long-term success and profitability. So if you want to build a strong reputation for your brand, focus on being transparent and authentic in all of your interactions with customers and stakeholders.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
It’s natural to believe that the people closest to you will support your business endeavors. After all, they know you best and want to see you succeed. However, the reality is that not everyone in your personal circle may be interested in or able to support your business. It’s important to unlearn the idea that your family and friends are “supposed” to support your business. Instead, focus on finding your target audience and building a community of people who are genuinely interested in what you have to offer. This may mean stepping outside of your comfort zone and networking with individuals who you may not have had a prior relationship with.
Additionally, while having a large following can be beneficial for your business, it’s not always necessary for success. It’s more important to have a dedicated and engaged audience that values your content or products. Quality over quantity should be your focus.
Overall, unlearning these beliefs can be challenging, but it’s important to recognize that success in business requires a strategic approach and an open mindset.
