Your ability to build a team is often a key determinant of your success as a business owner and so we’d love to get a conversation going with successful entrepreneurs like yourself around what your recruiting process was like -especially early on. How did you build your team?
As Smart People Network Corp, our journey began in 2019 when Bishop Dr. Michael Bates Sr. and Dr. Stacee Lang co-founded the business membership platform with spiritual backing. From the start, we faced the decision of whether to have employees right away or begin with a small team.
At the beginning, it was just a few of us wearing multiple hats and handling various tasks. However, as our business grew, we realized the importance of expanding our team to increase our capacity and expertise.
Finding our first team members was a crucial step, and we utilized personal networks, referrals, and job postings to identify potential candidates. During the interview process, we assessed their skills, cultural fit, and potential for growth.
To attract top talent and foster a unique team culture, we took an unconventional approach to recruiting and training. Leveraging social media and online challenges, we engaged potential candidates and offered distinctive job perks.
Looking back, if we were to start the business today, we would consider leveraging newer technologies, social media platforms, and remote work structures to adapt to the changing business landscape. However, any changes would depend on the industry and the specific goals and needs of our business.
