We were lucky to catch up with Peri El recently and have shared our conversation below.

Peri, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?

The most significant endeavor I have undertaken so far is the creation of my feature film, “Born in the Metaverse.” Over two years ago, I embarked on the writing process, pouring my heart and soul into this project ever since. My intention behind this story was to shape my own destiny and raise awareness about cyber safety for young adults. The online world can be a terrifying place for children, and through my film, I aspire to bring about change. I want to demonstrate that it is possible to navigate the Metaverse safely while still pursuing your wildest dreams. Prior to the outbreak of Covid, I had never given much thought to virtual reality. However, when faced with the challenges of the pandemic, I was determined to continue creating and performing live music. In a world where we often feel trapped, music serves as a much-needed solace.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

My name is Peri El, a Baltimore-born singer, songwriter, actor, and screenwriter. I proudly graduated from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in 2020, where I honed my skills and nurtured my passion for music and performance. Little did I know that just as I was ready to embark on my highly anticipated tour, the world was struck by the devastating pandemic that affected all of us.

In the face of these unprecedented challenges, I turned to writing as a powerful means of self-expression and solace. Through my words, I discovered a unique way to convey emotions that words alone cannot capture. It became my refuge, my sanctuary, where I could articulate the depth of my experiences and share my journey with others.

But writing, for me, goes beyond personal fulfillment. It is a profound desire to provide support and understanding to those who may find themselves grappling with their own struggles. No one should ever feel alone in their battles, and through my art, I aim to create a sense of connection and empathy that transcends boundaries.

As a strong, creative woman, I am acutely aware that there is still progress to be made in today’s society. I firmly believe in the power of art to challenge norms, break down barriers, and pave the way for true acceptance and equality. With every word I write, and every melody I compose, I am determined to contribute to this ongoing fight.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?

As an up-and-coming artist, navigating the industry can be an incredibly challenging and exhilarating journey. It requires passion, determination, and a strong support system from friends and family who believe in your talent. Without their encouragement and guidance, it can be difficult to grow and make a name for yourself in the competitive art world. Additionally, having representation in this industry is crucial as it opens doors to opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach. A dedicated agent or manager can help you secure work, negotiate contracts, and gain recognition among influential players in the industry.

To make matters even more complex, getting noticed and obtaining representation requires a substantial portfolio of work that truly showcases your unique style and artistic vision. It means pouring your heart and soul into your craft, constantly creating and refining your art to stand out from the crowd. Although this journey can sometimes feel disheartening, with moments of stagnation and waiting for your big break, it’s important to remember that perseverance and dedication are key. Every step forward, no matter how small, brings you closer to your dreams.

The art world is a vast and dynamic landscape filled with immense talent waiting to be discovered. Countless young, unknown artists possess extraordinary skills and creativity that deserve to be recognized and celebrated. Unfortunately, many of these talented individuals go unnoticed, lacking the visibility and engagement they truly deserve. That’s why having a platform that showcases your work and connects you with a wider audience is crucial. It allows you to break through the barriers and reach art enthusiasts, collectors, and potential collaborators who can appreciate and support your artistic journey. Although even when you have a platform its hard to get new potential fans to follow you. One of the most effective strategies to gain audience attention is when established artists share the work of emerging talents who possess a similar artistic style. This not only instills trust in the artist’s platform but also motivates the audience to explore your creations. They are more inclined to check out your unique content, knowing it comes recommended by their trusted favorites.

As someone who is still figuring it out myself, I understand the challenges and uncertainties that come with pursuing a career in the arts. Even the biggest celebrities and industry veterans face obstacles and setbacks along the way. The entertainment industry, with its ever-changing trends and high expectations, can be overwhelming. However, I believe that challenges like these are what fuel our passion and determination. We were born to overcome adversity and strive for greatness. With unwavering dedication and an unyielding spirit, I will continue to push boundaries, learn from my experiences, and never give up until I reach my goal.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?

Managing time is a constant challenge when dealing with the expectations of non-creative individuals. As a creative, your timeline can vary from years to mere minutes. It is my sincere wish that the world could better comprehend and appreciate this reality. I yearn for those outside of this industry to embrace a greater level of respect and understanding, rather than dismissing it as an unrealistic pursuit unless one is already famous. It is crucial for individuals to invest more time in truly comprehending the intricacies of this industry – how it can be both draining and immensely rewarding. In this line of work, there are countless ups and downs, often more rejections than acceptances. It may not always be evident, but these setbacks can be truly painful. Nevertheless, we creatives are resilient and possess an inner strength that surpasses expectations. Support plays a pivotal role, and even if some may not fully grasp our artistic journey, it is important to respect it and refrain from judgment. Let us stand united as a community, supporting and uplifting our fellow creatives, rather than creating divisions. Never underestimate the journey of every successful artist, for they all began as unnoticed gems waiting to be discovered.
