Alright, Gretchen thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
I’m a former full time worker/student and current stay at home mother. I always thought I would go back to school and finish my nursing degree, or continue my doula practice… but nothing is more rewarding than raising and experiencing the world with my son. I love the freedom owning a small shop allows me, and I love vending local events with other small business friends.

My name is Gretchen, I’ma Halloween loving gal from Cleveland. I started my small business venture as Feral Mama Shop, catering to spooky and alternative moms. I chose last year to steer more into the Halloween theme and changed over to Creeps Boutique! I offer custom designed items as well as curated Halloween themed things I want to share with customers. It’s been a slow process but I plan to keep moving forward adding more and more! Eventually I’d love to have a physical store Front.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The pandemic was definitely a wild time… I started my business about a month before Covid happened… I was terrified of how this would go, but it actually turned out really well!
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I had zero capital. I started my business with nothing. No knowledge of business, no money, no clue how to navigate social media… but I never gave up. I soaked up as much knowledge and experience as I could and just kept going!
