We recently connected with Abigail Dalton and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Abigail, thanks for joining us today. Can you share a story with us from back when you were an intern or apprentice? Maybe it’s a story that illustrates an important lesson you learned or maybe it’s a just a story that makes you laugh (or cry)?
I first learned about magnet therapy from a close friend back in Texas. We’d kept in touch since I relocated to Nashville in 2016 and it was interesting to learn that she and her husband had been traveling to Mexico to get him treated. For as long as I’ve known them, he has suffered from both PTSD and Gulf War Syndrome. I knew if they were making the efforts to travel that she had finally found an effective treatment that got her husband relief. To my surprise, it was SO effective that she began taking the steps to get certified herself to administer the therapy.
In the course of her growing in knowledge and building her own practice, my other family members began seeing her for various health complaints. My grandmother got almost total relief using this therapy from trigeminal neuralgia! I was sold. I had been struggling myself with chronic digestive issues for several years, which had already landed me in the ER. Despite doing avid research, I was no closer to figuring out the root cause of my problems.
I knew if I wanted to truly get a hold of my well-being, I needed definite answers about my health so that I could make informed life-style decisions. Because of my health history, I realized getting those answers would mean the start of clinical tests from a long line of specialists. Unfortunately, as a single woman living on her own there was NO WAY I could afford the needed doctors visits to get to the bottom of what was going on-especially considering my insurance would require me to pay for those specialists out of pocket. I made travel arrangements to try out magnet therapy (Biomagnetic Adjustment specifically) for myself.
After just one Biomagnetic Adjustment I had tremendous relief! A big revelation was discovering I had an inherited gluten intolerance that was overwhelming my system with inflammation. I’m so grateful to the phenomenal Optimal Feeling team for all the help & attention. It was through their patient guidance and encouragement that I decided to take the classes for myself. In the course of learning this therapy, I met many other highly skilled naturopaths & practitioners who have also been incredibly generous with their time and expertise. Through their encouragement I’ve taken additional certifications for naturopathic techniques and emotional therapies.
I had no ambition of changing careers, as I already had a job I loved in accounting, but as soon as I learned how this type of magnet therapy worked I knew I had to make a change. I’ve been seeing clients since 2021 and at the end of 2022 I quit my job and started working as a magnet therapist full time. I’m excited that I’ve just surpassed 80 clients and I am looking forward to helping even more in the middle Tennessee area to take back their health with this exciting therapy!
Abigail, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For those that haven’t heard of magnet therapy, it is much like acupuncture and works on the same principles of how the body functions as is taught in Traditional Chinese Medicine. But unlike acupuncture, we use magnets instead of needles. This therapy is so effective because we work at a cellular level. Our bodies are electromagnetic in nature and so magnets are a great way to optimize healing in holistic, noninvasive way. Biomagnetic Adjustment is also a great treatment option for pets!
This technique, Biomagnetic Adjustment, was patented by a naturopath and family doctor in Mexico 30 years ago. Due to its origins, the way that we work in investigating a root cause is closely tied to how a naturopathic doctor works. We’re looking to address whatever root cause is contributing to an ailment. Some of the things we look for are viruses, bacteria, parasites, food sensitivities, chemical exposures, low level radiation, trauma and emotions. Because I’m not a doctor, there is no need to diagnose, all we have to focus on is eliminating the source of inflammation.
We work by locating the cause of a complaint using a form of applied kinesiology called the Polysynaptic Muscular Response. This term was decided on after a clinical study at the University of Colima determined the four regions of the brain that are active when someone is being muscle tested. I am highly trained not only in the health and safety practices of administering magnet therapy but also the ethics and investigative techniques used in effective muscle testing.
I’m excited to be the first certified magnet therapist to perform Biomagnetic Adjustment in the Nashville area! While many may not have heard of the benefits of magnet therapy, now that its been approved for treatment resistant depression we hope many more will give it a try. We’re also happy to let people know that magnet therapy is covered by most Health Savings Accounts. Steps like this are promising for the future of natural treatment options in mainstream health care.
Not only are we focused on exposing others to this exciting therapy, we also focus on education. Many of us, myself included, don’t know exactly how many basic functions of our bodies actually work! Via our consultations, social media and website we seek to provide curated content that is both factual & informative. We want to help other learn about how their body should be functioning in an optimal state and the basics of Biomagnetism. What we DO NOT promote is medical advice, extreme trends, blanket statements or elitist wellness habits that aren’t sustainable. We want people to learn how to feel good in the body their end & support it in achieving balance!
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
If you want to succeed in the wellness industry, research is a must. But living in an information age were inundated with content that isn’t so much fact based as it is opinion based. Learning to stay informed on the latest findings by focusing on reputable sources like clinical studies, naturopathic doctors, psychologists and integrative medicine practitioners. I always check the source of the content that I’m consuming and the way in which its presented. There are many informed industry professionals that have great information, but is presented as fear-based messaging. I’m cautious about that because I don’t want to pass on unnecessary anxiety to my clients. The beauty of this therapy is that its completely individualized for each client and we only focus on issues that are contributing to their symptoms. Blanket statements simply don’t apply to each person.
What has also helped is being able to explain how the body functions at an energetic level. In this country, clinical medicine doesn’t always focus on that or the power of our emotions. Once people realize the science behind the electromagnetic function of their body & the impact adverse emotions can have on their body, they’re open to a whole new field that can help with their health.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
One on one focus on my clients. People today aren’t heard and they’re scared when they begin having symptoms they can’t explain. Giving my clients the time to express their concerns & validate their feelings is incredibly empowering. Our sessions aren’t rushed and it affords them the opportunity to relax a much deeper level knowing they’re doing something proactive for their health.
A large appeal for many is that this therapy doesn’t replace the care of your doctor. Rather, its designed to work as a compliment to what you’re already doing to maximize results. The effectiveness of the therapy has made it hard for my clients to keep their results to themselves. I love being able to hear how they improve little by little, and then they can look back to see just how far they’ve come. When they tell their family and friends they’re ready to try it themselves! We’re so excited this great modality has finally come to Nashville.
Word of mouth is by far the greatest source of new clients for Achieve Homeostasis, but many are also responding positively to client testimonials and our social media presence. We just want to get the word out that magnet therapy can help with chronic ailments and emotional health issues.
