Having new or innovative ideas is essential to pushing the world forward and so we asked the community to share stories of the most innovative things they’ve done in their career. Our hope is to inspire folks who think only scientists or tech-wizards can innovate – innovation is possible for everyone, regardless of job title or function, industry or geography.

I am 58 years old and I have been self-employed all my life. In my 20’s, way before the Internet and cell phones, I managed to telecommute and freelance remotely. Back then I was adapting TV sitcoms from English to Spanish. I had to use VHS and BETA video tapes and a manual, and later an electric typewriter to do my work for the sound studio. I started as a newspaper writer in Denver and then later became an editor. When I moved from Denver to Vail, I applied my writing experience to the academic world and became a writing tutor at Colorado Mountain College. Prior to CMC, I had never done anything in academics so that was a big shift for me. A few years later, I became a College Essay Consultant at Vail Mountain School which has been equally challenging and rewarding.
