At a young age I learned the importance of giving back, whether it be giving my time or in the form of a donation. My parents were very involved in our community and I saw the importance of helping those in need and the impact one can have on another’s life. Last spring I sold May Baskets to raise funds for a memorial scholarship fund set up in my sister’s name at the high school she and I both attended. My sister, Emily, was killed May 1st (May Day), 1999 by a drunk driver the night of her senior prom. Read more>>

I arrived here from Brazil at the age of seven, and within a year, I learned how to read well . However, I didn’t own any books until the Christmas I turned nine, when someone gave me a children’s novel. I had only been taken to the picture book section of the libraries, and until then, I had never read an entire novel. It was the beginning of a love affair with reading, which eventually became my career. I taught English Composition and Creative Writing as a full professor at Miami Dade College. Read more>>

As an author and public health advocate, I love giving back and providing service and resources to animals, children and families across the globe that need it. That is why I created Off the Grid Missions, the mission is to provide educational resources, services and other needed items to help better ones life. All of the products that I sell on my website give back, 25% of the purchases get donated to Off the Grid Missions. Last year, I went to Dominican Republic to donate to the village there and to provide fluoride treatments to the people. It was so eye opening and rewarding experience that I will never forget.
