Krish, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.

One of the biggest risks I’ve taken was quitting my job (literally packing my things and storming out) without a plan b. I was working for a terrible boss who didn’t pay us properly. It was going on 3 weeks without a paycheck. Mind you we were supposed to get paid weekly. It was a blessing in disguise because the same day I left, I went for a walk in my neighborhood and saw a “FOR RENT” sign on one of the local business store fronts. I called the phone number on the sign and the rest is history. My salon has been open for over 10 years now. Fully staffed with amazing team members and clients.

Krish, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I’ve been in the beauty industry since I graduated high school. It’s all I’ve ever done. I can do hair with my eyes closed. I’m here to help people find their best selves, to love what and who they see in the mirror. I’m proudest of my network, the amazing people I’ve met along the way that are the backbone of my business and my life. The main thing I would like potential clients to know is that my team is here to make your day with us something to look forward to. We provide services and a process that not only is great for your exterior being but also who you are inside. Luxe Beauty Bar is a boutique salon and Luxe Beauty Group is our network for freelance artists. My company houses a talented team of hairstylists and makeup artists that specialize in color, highlight, cut, styling, extensions, formal styling and makeup, editorial, bridal and special events, Our team of professionals are dedicated to delivering high impact results in a comfortable and fun environment. Our appointment only policy ensures that each guest has an efficient and relaxing experience.

Any advice for managing a team?

For my team of creatives, it’s particularly important to give them the space to be inspired and a work home they want to grow in. My company morale is lifted up by offering an even playing field for thoughts, suggestions, growth, and scaling. Everyone is here to win. There is no competition in a field where everyone can tap in to their highest earning potential as long as they have a healthy work environment. And that doesn’t necessarily mean just with co-workers, client relationships also need to be healthy. And that’s the formula: a safe space with a great clientele equals growth and productivity.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?

My main resources are my business peers. Half of them are my closest friends. All of my friends either own a business, are the ceo, general manager, project manager, boss, etc. they all are in a position of leadership. So we tend to take advice from each other since we’ve all been high on a mountain or down in the trenches at some point of our careers. Having those close relationships with peers in the same mindset with the same responsibilities is very important to me.
