We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Giovanni DC a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Giovanni, thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
The legacy I look forward building upon goes beyond me just achieving the goals I have in mind for myself. Musically I want be remembered for changing the way music producers are looked upon. I want to be one of those producers who changes the game, by being myself and bringing something different to the table. I want to be able to give producers a new spotlight. I don’t think were appreciated enough as a whole in what we bring to this industry. I want to be able to show others who come from the same background as me that you can do it through all the pain and struggles, and the setbacks that you got to go through to get where you really want to be. that you can make it happen by having 1000 percent belief in yourself no matter what. I look forward to having an impact in a way to where I inspire, motivate, and give others belief in them selves with taking opportunities like I had to find that belief in myself. With that being said I feel like I can create a major impact on society by also venturing into new things that can really help my community. I haven’t really thought about what exactly I want to do yet but I really think it will leave a positive impact when we get there.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Giovanni DC, I am from Cleveland, Ohio. I grew up on the westside of the city. I come from a tough hard working city. GDC Productions is the name of my brand. I started making music when I was in high school around my senior year I had the demo for the music software program Fl studio at the time. To make a long story short, once I left school is when I picked up on the music and started to invest in equipment and things that would help me get started with my career. Then that turned into countless nights of grinding and teaching myself, and learning how to make music and understand how to mix and arrange songs together. I had to learn and be comfortable with networking which is a must when it come to being in this business. Overtime I have worked on my craft every night over the last seven years and now its become a lifestyle for me. Being a music creative has changed my life, It gave me purpose and a different outlook on life in general and its something I plan on doing for a very long time. At the moment for me and my brand I have a lot of projects in the works. I have a Executive produced album that I am working on that will featured many different artist. I’m really working hard on this and I can’t wait to able to present it when its done, I really feel like its going to be something my brand can build upon and Its good to see how far my sound has come. I am excited for what the future holds. One thing I want to people to know about my brand is that its just the beginning, and there is a lot of new music coming out soon. I can’t wait to see where things go from here.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I would say it’s just me being myself and networking. When I come across music I like or an artist that I want to work with. You tend to study their sound and figure out how you can work together and create something of your own. I think just being organic in the relationship building aspect is key too. You don’t want to go doing to much or force a situation with an artist or other producers. I would say that working with artist and producers in person is key as well if your an upcoming producer or just getting started you want to get yourself in the studio and build connections as much as you can. Being a producer I drive myself to do more than just make beats. I look at myself as a business, and with that you have to do a lot of the behind the scenes work to make sure your business is moving in the right direction with marketing yourself, networking and investing in yourself and business.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
When I First started uploading my own videos of my music It gained a little bit of attention at first and I just kept doing what I did with Showing people on my social media a little bit of the behind the scenes of what its like to create music. Overtime I began to network with other creatives that do what I do, and continue to build upon that. Overall I would say building your brand through all social media platforms is very important. Sometimes you have to plan ahead with what content you putting out. for those who are just starting out, I would say to come up with a schedule of when you are releasing content and go from there try different things and see what works best for you and your brand.
