We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Katerina Hung a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Katerina, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.

Back in March 2023, with the support of my business partner, I embarked on a personal production that would redefine my artistic path. Punished Gods was not just a conceptual piece; it was a transformative experience that allowed me to explore the depths of my creative vision.

Gathering a team of 16 talented individuals, I felt a mix of excitement and nervousness as we embarked on this artistic journey together. It was my first time taking the reins as a director, stepping out of my comfort zone, and venturing into uncharted territory. The weight of responsibility felt both exhilarating and humbling.

As the project unfolded, I witnessed the fusion of photography and video, seamlessly blending to tell a captivating story. The vision that had been lingering within me finally took shape, captured by my lens and guided by my direction. Every step of the way, I learned and grew, discovering new aspects of myself as an artist and a leader.

Punished Gods was more than just a personal project; it became a testament to my determination and passion. It symbolized my willingness to challenge myself and embrace the unknown. The result was a stunning piece of art that encapsulated my artistic evolution.

Now, as we move forward, my team and I have exciting plans to showcase Punished Gods in various galleries and stores around Downtown Los Angeles. We envision our work being displayed in spaces where people can immerse themselves in the story we’ve created. We hope that this project will serve as a springboard for us to delve further into the realms of storytelling and short films.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

Picture this: a 5-year-old me with tiny fingers struggling to find the right notes on the piano. It wasn’t easy, but I persisted, and soon enough, I found myself falling in love with the world of the arts.

I went on to pursue a fine arts education, experimenting with various mediums and discovering the thrill of creating something truly unique. But it wasn’t until I found myself on stage, bringing characters to life and captivating audiences, that I truly found my passion.

However, my journey didn’t end there. I soon discovered a new medium for storytelling and self-expression: photography. And from the moment I picked up a camera, I knew that this was what I was meant to do.

Through my lens, I strive to capture images that are not only beautiful but also meaningful and thought-provoking. I believe that every subject has a story to tell, and it’s my job to help bring that story to life.

My approach to photography is all about the details. From the perfect lighting to the right angle, every element of the shot matters. And through my work, I’m constantly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, experimenting with new techniques and approaches to create truly one-of-a-kind images.

But what I love most about my job is the chance to connect with people and tell their stories. It’s an honor to be trusted with someone’s memories and to have the opportunity to bring those memories to life through my art.

In the end, I’m grateful for the chance to use my creativity to inspire others to find their own unique voice. Whether it’s through music, acting, or photography, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of creating something truly special.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?

Punished Gods, the project I undertook with my team, has been a significant milestone on my path towards Hollywood and creating my own films.

Through Punished Gods, I had the opportunity to wear multiple hats as a writer, director, and producer. This project was transformative, igniting a deep passion for storytelling and visual artistry within me. It allowed me to explore my leadership skills, bring my unique vision to life, and evoke powerful emotions through the medium of film.

With each project, I am constantly refining my skills and pushing myself to think innovatively. The experiences and artistic growth I gained from Punished Gods have provided a solid foundation for my future endeavors. They have strengthened my resolve to pursue my passions within the film industry, whether as a writer, director, or producer.

Ultimately, my goal is to contribute to the cinematic landscape of Hollywood, creating compelling stories that captivate and inspire audiences worldwide. I am dedicated to constantly learning and evolving as a storyteller, and I am excited about the possibilities that lie ahead.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

I feel my strongest trait is my resilience. No matter how challenging or impossible my dreams may seem, once I’ve made up my mind to do something, I do it!

Growing up in Taiwan, I fell in love with the world of photography. Capturing moments and emotions through images became my passion and my escape. When I moved to Los Angeles to pursue my dreams as a photographer, however, I quickly realized that it wasn’t going to be easy.

As a newcomer in a competitive and established field, I faced language barriers, an introverted personality, and difficulties networking with other photographers. I struggled to make a name for myself while others seemed to have it all figured out.

But I refused to give up. I surrounded myself with good people who believed in me and my talent, and I made it my mission to constantly challenge myself and improve in my craft. I studied everything I could about composition, lighting, and storytelling through images and poured everything I had into creating images that truly captured the essence of my subjects.

Slowly but surely, my hard work and dedication began to pay off. My images began to gain recognition and my client base began to grow. With each new project, I grew more confident in my abilities and my vision.

While I have yet to achieve my ultimate goal of becoming a director, I remain focused on my passion for photography. It hasn’t been an easy journey, but it has been a rewarding one. And I know that with continued hard work and dedication, I will overcome any obstacles that come my way and achieve even greater success as a photographer.
