Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Raven Latta. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Raven, appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I’ve always been interested in art, I know it’s my calling! I sketched, sculpted and painted all throughout high school and knew I needed to do something with this God given gift/passion! I absolutely knew The Lord would bless my art and it would all work out to glorify His name. I am a painter and I believe art should be everywhere. I’ve painted murals that take up a whole gray wall and the emotion and inspiration it brings.. I see that as a problem no one else was solving, but that is The Lord’s work in me, not my own. It brings such excitement to my spirit knowing my purpose and place in growing the Kingdom of God!”.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’ve always been an artist, I believe that is my purpose in life and it is how God created me to spread The Gospel. I know most people call it being self-taught but I know I am God-taught. I could not take credit for having an urge to paint something that shares the truth about Jesus and points people His way, it is His work in me. I started painting, sculpting, and getting into pyrography (wood burning), and my friends/family began putting in requests.. so I thought this must be my purpose! I created a business account on Facebook and started posting my art and got a few commissions right away. After I started my amazing new job at the hospital, I was asked if I paint murals and if I would be interested in painting one at the main entrance. I’d never had such a great opportunity, that is where my art really took off! They absolutely loved the sketch I did, so I painted a mural that shares The Gospel of Jesus Christ. I’ve painted two more murals in the facility and I’ve been asked to paint the sign outside coming into the hospital. I have 7 murals backed up and I have requests being put in for nurseries and canvas prints. The best part is being able to step back and watch God’s glory being magnified through the viewer’s eyes.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Yes, I looked at art as my side hustle for a while because I thought there was no way I could make a living. I was selling pieces here and there but business was slow. As I kept working my normal job and selling art on the side, God reminded me of this verse: “Thus says The Lord, who makes a way through the sea and a path through the mighty waters..” Isaiah 43:16 And I realized I was not trusting Him with every part of my life! So I gave it to God and He’s blessed my talent beyond what I could ever have imagined since.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I receive the most commissions when I post art daily. My advice would be to stay busy and keep creating because everyone has different styles and taste in art, you never know when one of your pieces will hike your engagement on social media and when that happens, more commissions will come!
