We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jen Scott a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jen, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I am honored to have the opportunity to share with your readers the journey behind my passion project, “Trickle & Flow.” I am the Creator, Writer, Showrunner, a Producer and Actress in this upcoming Canadian crime series.
Trickle & Flow” began as a simple idea—a mystery TV series titled after a play on words. However, during a car ride, my love for action and cop dramas took the project in a thrilling new direction. This decision marked the beginning of an adventure that has surpassed my wildest expectations. “Trickle & Flow” is a series that seamlessly blends witty comedy, action, and drama, adding a unique twist to the traditional crime drama formula.
The project has grown into much more than just a TV series; it has become a family of exceptional individuals. Working on a project with such remarkable people has been an enriching experience, and I am extremely grateful to call them friends. The sheer talent they possess is nothing short of awe-inspiring, their accomplishments speak volumes about their abilities and they possess remarkable character traits that shine through in everything they do.
From their impressive credits to their diverse skill sets, they never cease to amaze me. Beyond their professional accomplishments, their genuine kindness, compassion, and unwavering dedication make them extraordinary human beings. Also the way they care and make a difference in the lives of others.
The heart of the series lies in the compelling dynamic between Ben Trickle, portrayed by the immensely talented and versatile John Thomas Gauthier, and Luke Flow, brought to life by the charismatic and equally talented Tazito Garcia. These two, armed with their unique “special skills” have a bond that was formed through some odd circumstances. The two left their detective jobs behind and ventured into the world of private investigation.
Little did they know their paths would repeatedly intersect with the resourceful and quick-witted Detective Riley Peters (portrayed by myself). Riley’s knack for saving their hides in tight spots further entwines their destinies. When an inescapable predicament arises, Ben and Luke have no choice but to dust off their detective badges and reunite with Riley on a Canadian federal law-enforcement task force she leads.
Together, along with some of Canada’s best and brightest (Janet McMordie, Andrew Meikle, Allisha Pelletier, Indy Saluja, Billy Merrylees, Chai Valladares, Marcella Young) they take on intricate and perilous cases that test their trust and challenge them to unravel the truth behind a web of crime. As they delve deeper into each case, their personal and professional lives become increasingly entangled, making for an exhilarating adventure filled with twists and turns.
In addition to the remarkable Canadian talent mentioned above, the rest of our ensemble cast will help elevate “Trickle & Flow” to new heights. With Dean McDermott, Sugith Varughese, Sarah Cleveland, Chloe Madison, Michael K Haskins, Michele Arvizu, Alicia Ryan, Nir Guzinski, Sean Simms, L.A. Sweeney, Patrick Stiles, Krista Barzso, Adrian Edwards, Michael Masurkevitch, Sylvan Valladares, Linda Young, Jinny Wong, and Natasha Belisle, the captivating performances are bound to add depth and intrigue to the storyline. Their passion and brilliance will make the world of “Trickle & Flow” come alive, celebrating Canada’s vibrant entertainment industry.
The show is being produced by my company Country Girl Productions in association with the esteemed AKOOLFILM COMPANY Inc., led by the talented and experienced Allen Kool (who will also be directing). Working alongside Allen, who boasts 60 years of entertainment industry experience and has earned accolades including Canadian Screen Award nominations, has been nothing short of amazing. With an exceptional producer team involved, we are gearing up to start filming in October, and I couldn’t be prouder of the project and the remarkable team behind it.
“Trickle & Flow” is an embodiment of our collective passion for storytelling and our commitment to making a meaningful impact on the lives of audiences worldwide. We hope that the adventures of Ben, Luke, Riley and the rest of the Trickle & Flow characters will resonate with viewers and inspire them to embrace their own unique journeys.
Jen, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello, I’m Jen Scott. I am a Multi-Passionate Entrepreneuer, Actress, Writer, Producer, Award-Winning Sugar Artist & Pastry Chef. I’m the Founder of The Lakoda Project (a charity I’m developing to help combat food insecurity and homelessness worldwide) as well as Country Girl Productions (a Canadian production company), Creator of Trickle & Flow and proud Mom of 5.
While some of my friends affectionately call me the “Jen-of-All-Trades,” I consider myself incredibly blessed to have had the chance to explore various avenues that bring me immense joy. My journey has led me from the world of cake artistry to the captivating realm of acting and storytelling, giving me the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in both the entertainment industry and charitable endeavors.
From a young age, I found myself drawn to the arts, sports, and the field of medicine. Through school, I was involved in choirs, band performances, drama club, my favorite sport soccer as well as various other sports (Basketball, Volleyball, Floor Hockey, Gymnastics, Cheerleading and TaeKwonDo). My classes were always geared towards medicine though. I loved science, especially biology and kinesiology. My career aspirations revolved around making a meaningful impact in the world and I thought I was going to do this as a doctor. However, life’s twists and turns can lead to unexpected paths.
I decided to take up the hobby of cake decorating after experiencing some life-altering circumstances, which led me to forgo pursuing medicine at that time and open up my first company at the age of 20. I continued on that path, eventually becoming a Certified Sugar Artist and Pastry Chef. However, something was missing—the piece of how I was going to make a large impact in the world. So, while maintaining my cake business, I explored various other careers, including roles as a Red Cross Instructor, Personal Support Worker, Security Guard, Esthetician, IT Support, Admin Assistant, Mortgage Agent, Marketing Manager, Graphic Designer, Social Media Manager, Pastry Chef in a fancy restaurant and more. I also tried going to school for Dental Assisting and Nursing. While all of these careers were amazing in their own right, nothing seemed to fill the void until I discovered acting.
My cake company opened doors to the world of TV, as I appeared on shows like Grand River Living and had a monthly teaching segment on Rogers Daytime TV for over a year. I was even offered my own TV show called the “Smile Project” and filmed the pilot. Though I was unable to continue the series due to schedules and commitments, I was honored to be offered the show. After Rogers Daytime TV went off the air, a producer who knew me suggested I should audition for a TV series auditioning in Hamilton. She knew I had enjoyed doing drama and musicals in high school and thought it might be what I was looking for.
Taking a leap of faith, I auditioned for a Hamilton-based TV show in 2018 and was fortunate to land a lead role. The creator asked me to audition for his other series too, where I also landed a principal role. As a result, I thought, “Oh, I could actually really do this,” and it marked the beginning of my professional acting career.
The journey into acting has been an incredible experience, offering me opportunities to portray diverse characters and explore the realm of storytelling in projects such as the multi-award-winning feature film “The Taste of Blood” and the upcoming film “Cry of Silence,” along with other series and films.
In addition, watching actors like Chris Evans, Kristen Bell, and Ryan Reynolds, among others, use their platforms to make a difference in the world opened my eyes to the missing piece in my life.
I felt a strong desire to do more, not just for myself, but also for the incredible and talented people I knew and continued to meet. To shed light on their abilities, I launched a podcast called “Coffee Chat’ that spanned two seasons, using my platform to showcase their talents. However, I knew I wanted to go beyond that and create even more opportunities for others.
In 2022, I took a leap of faith and founded Country Girl Productions, driven by the goal of contributing to the local Canadian film industry and providing a platform for talented individuals to shine. Alongside this venture, I embarked on developing The Lakoda Project, a charity initiative with a mission to make a significant impact in the crisis of food insecurity and homelessness. My commitment lies in combating these pressing issues and working towards a better, more compassionate world for those in need. Through Country Girl Productions and The Lakoda Project, I am determined to make a positive difference and empower others to pursue their dreams.
My passion project, “Trickle & Flow,” is a Canadian crime series that marries my entrepreneurial spirit and creative vision. It’s an endeavor close to my heart, as I aspire to offer a fresh and uniquely Canadian perspective to the genre. I’m also working on two feature films at the moment in association with AKOOLFILM COMPANY Inc. called “Love En Route” (a heartwarming and humorous romantic comedy) and “J-Money” (an action-packed crime thriller).
Throughout my journey, I’ve learned that life is about embracing new challenges, remaining open to growth, and staying true to oneself. I’m continually inspired by the power of storytelling to connect with others and make a positive impact.
Above all, I’m deeply thankful for the support of my incredible family and friends who have been there with me every step of the way. As I continue to explore and create, I hope to inspire others to fearlessly pursue their passions and find their own unique paths in life.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I used to subscribe to the societal definition of success, which heavily focused on financial wealth and external achievements. You know, that whole narrative of “go to school, get a high-paying job, settle down, and prove yourself to be validated.” It definitely influenced my perspective for a significant portion of my life. But as I went through life and gained more experiences, I realized that there’s so much more to it.
You can have an ivy league education, well-paying job, awards and all the money and fancy stuff in the world. But if you’re miserable deep down, what’s the point?
Success should be a deeply personal and individualized concept. Each person’s journey is unique, and what brings them happiness and a sense of fulfillment will differ from one individual to another. There is no one-size-fits-all formula for success.
I have learned to look within myself to understand what truly brings me joy and a sense of accomplishment. I now prioritize my happiness and well-being above all else, making conscious decisions to create a life that aligns with my authentic self.
In essence, my journey to unlearn the conventional definition of success has taught me the importance of self-awareness and living life on my terms. I believe that success is an ongoing process of learning, growing, and finding joy in the journey, and I am committed to embracing my own unique path to happiness and fulfillment. Life is too precious and so short to not be happy and do what you love. So I truly believe success lies in living a life that feels authentic to yourself and no one else, purposeful, and filled with joy. Happiness equals success.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Being an artist and creative, the most rewarding aspect for me is the people. I’ve had the privilege to collaborate with some exceptional individuals (John Thomas Gauthier, Tazito Garcia, Marcella Young, Janet McMordie, Sarah Cleveland, Mike Haskins, Allen Kool, Allisha Pelletier– just to name a few). These individuals become like family. Whether it’s fellow actors, writers, producers, or crew members, the connections we develop often go beyond the work itself. Supporting each other’s artistic visions, pushing one another to grow, and celebrating our collective accomplishments are what make this path so fulfilling.
In the creative process, we explore diverse perspectives, immerse ourselves in unique worlds, and tell stories that touch the hearts of audiences. It’s a collaborative effort that requires trust and open communication. Creating together, inspiring one another, and connecting with audiences through our art fuels my passion for creativity. Artistry thrives in collaboration and collective passion, contributing not only to my work but also to my personal growth as an artist.
The people are the heart and soul of every artistic endeavor, making being an artist so profoundly rewarding.
