Michelle , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a serial entrepreneur who has an obsession with experience, connection and growth. Bonded started back in 2019 in my home state of Utah as one of the very first permanent jewelers. It was started by some friends from my home town that went to the same high school as I did. I was photographer for over a decade before staring Bonded Charlotte and I started out working with them through some coaching and then as one of their brand photographers.
When I moved out to North Carolina, it was time to move on from photography and my friends were just starting to franchise. I knew I aligned with the values and mission and loved that I could trust that they put the same priority in quality as I did so it was an easy choice to get further involved in the Bonding side of the business.
Bonded Charlotte has grown so much faster than I could have imagined. The connections, the relationships, the stories. They are life changing. Bonded Charlotte is life changing! I’m so proud of what we are building together as a community. We are creating something special! It’s so much more than just permanent jewelry, it’s what’s behind that jewelry. Together we are making a positive influence on a world that can sometimes be full of frustration and heartache.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
People don’t want just a product anymore. They want to purchase something they believe in. They want to support businesses they align with on a core value level. I think the key to building a reputation starts at the very beginning. You have to define your values and mission as a business. Once that is defined you can use that as a reference point to stay consistent and connect with you Market.
You have to treat your customers time and energy as equally valuable to your own. Be reliable and stand behind what you say. That being said make sure you set and maintain boundaries with your clients and customers. I’ve communicate those and everybody wins.
Your reputation, on a foundational level, comes down to can you clients and customers trust you? When you have your foundations built right, boundaries set and systems in place to maintain them you can speak to those things and make business decisions that support what you are saying.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I am an avid reader. I absorb so much information from books. They are SO underrated! These are just 3 of the many books I think every business owner needs to read:
The Dip by Seth Godin
(When to lean in, when to pivot)
Ikigai by Hector Garcia & Francesc Miralles
(The secret to a happy and fulfilling life)
Start with Why by Simon Sinek
(Inspiring others to take action)
