We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Katelyn Prominski Baud a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Katelyn , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
I was a professional ballet and Broadway dancer, 5 months postpartum with my first son. Even though I had been a personal fitness trainer in between dancing contracts, my body was in a state that I did not understand. I had aches and pains from basic activities of daily “mom life;” breastfeeding, caring for and carrying a baby, recovering from a c-section, etc. and I felt like there had to be a specific way to tackle these issues.
I had tagged along on my husband’s work trip to Buenos Aires and I remember I was washing my hair, a rare occurrence for a newborn mother, when the idea came into my head. I needed to find a way to balance the demands of motherhood while strengthening my body and boosting my spirit. This would be an approach that directly considered a mother’s changing body during pregnancy and postpartum. It would be calming, as not to stress the body’s adrenal response, empowering, corrective, and extremely targeted. Busy moms do not have time to waste, so my workouts had to be effective. I changed my approach to exercise and created MOMBAUD.
The actual nuts and bolts did not come together for another year and a half, due to busy schedules and general life. Not until the world slowed down due to the pandemic, in March 2020, did I have time to actual flesh this idea out. MOMBAUD officially launched January 2021 as a virtual fitness platform, with an on-demand library and live Zoom workout classes.
Starting your own practice takes time, but you need to have a clear mission. In my case, I knew I wanted to help a specific group of women. I have grown organically, through word of mouth, and by having a really good product. My workouts are super tough, but really clearly developed.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am Katelyn, founder of MOMBAUD a prenatal and postnatal fitness business. I am a mom of two young boys and got into this field after the birth of my first son. I was a professional dancer and had a strong background in fitness. Once I firsthand experienced pregnancy and birth, my whole approach to fitness changed.
I have a virtual on-demand platform and also offer live personal and group fitness training services. I work with women who are prenatal or postnatal who want a tough and targeted workout. Especially because moms are super busy, I have developed an effective approach to strengthen the most common areas of concern (posture, core, booty, arms, legs) without overtaxing the body. My workouts leave you feeling energized (and stronger) rather than exhausted.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Yes, I have always loved helping people and solving their problems. Growing up, I would read the “Ask Abby” advice column in the newspaper every day! Once I realized that I could give women the tools to feel better surrounding their motherhood journey, I was all in. My private training sessions are like working out with your best friend – we share stories, tips, and tricks about life and love. I tailor their workouts to meet their own specific needs and I feel very special that my clients trust me during their process. My greatest joy is when I watch these women crush their goals and feel stronger and better because of our workouts.
My one wish is to scale this idea even bigger. While there are only so many hours in a day and there is only one me, I am currently in the process of sharing MOMBAUD in more ways.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Word of mouth. My clients trust my process and see the results. Sharing personal recommendations and testimonials has been the most effective way my business has grown.
