We recently connected with Kəˈrizmə Toussaint and have shared our conversation below.
Kəˈrizmə, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Pursing a musical career became a goal of mine a year before I graduated college. Seeing the success of certain family members who were music professionals is what fueled me the most. I just always had that one thought mind “if they can do it and become successful from it, I know I can. We share the same blood, so this dream of mine isn’t too far fetched. It’s actually closer than I think.”
Kəˈrizmə, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For those who are new, here’s a quick synopsis of who I am:
Born and raised in Dallas Texas, upcoming Kəˈrizmə Toussaint is bringing a fresh sound to the world. Putting together melodic sounds with a nice taste of Southern chopped and screwed, the 27 year old’s musical influences include Dallas native Erykah Badu and Atlanta bred YFN Lucci. Kəˈrizmə is pronounced as “Charisma”. Atlanta is now home for this artist that also owns a self titled clothing brand. Her brand has been seen in the hip hop culture on artist YFN Lucci, Euro Gotit, DYK dance crew and others. Her clothing brand has also appeared in multiple fashion shows around the metro Atlanta area. She’s also an actress who appeared in the hit show reboot “The Game.” Kəˈrizmə graduated from Prairie View A&M University with a B.A. in Business Marketing. During her downtime, she loves to play basketball which has been a love of hers since childhood.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Many people know me from my main IG page @lexabadu. I built my audience on social media by simply being myself. Today I see so many people becoming gimmicks to gain traction on social media when all along the best person they could be are themselves. Just to add on to that, it’s cheaper and easier to be yourself as well!
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I think everything I knew earlier in my creative journey was what I was suppose to know. I enjoy not knowing everything and allowing myself to grow as an individual overall. What I knew back then, is what I was supposed to know at that point in time.
What I know now is what I’m supposed know.
What I’ll know in future, whether it’s short term or long term, is what I’m suppose to know at that moment.
