We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Keeley Miller a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Keeley thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with me!
My mission as a photographer is more than just photography — it’s about creating an entire self love experience.
My work is all about empowering women through photography by showing them how beautiful they already are. I believe boudoir is for every body and that every woman deserves to see herself as art, at any age, any size, and any shape.
Personally, I photograph boudoir for women because I know how it feels to fall out of love with your self.
For more than half of my life, I (like many women) have struggled immensely with eating disorders, body dysmorphia, and body image. I know how it feels to look in the mirror and tear yourself apart. But as a photographer, I also know how to help women find themselves, reconnect with their bodies, and love her again through an empowering photoshoot experience that will capture their beauty from the inside out – every curve, every inch, and every gorgeous detail.
It’s about so much more than just taking gorgeous photos. It’s about celebrating yourself, often for the first time in a long time.
Keeley, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Absolutely!
I am an empowerment photographer based in San Diego, California.
I started my business at a very young age, dabbling in weddings, sports, senior portraits, headshots, pet photography, events, products — basically every genre except newborn photography (which I was too scared to try)!
But photographing women has always been so much more. Being able to create an experience that allows women to be pampered, focus on themselves, and reconnect with them is so powerful.
My work as a boudoir photographer is different from other studios. I aim to create art of my clients that feels like them and empowers them — not just putting my clients in lingerie and makeup. I want my clients to see themselves and their beauty from the inside out.
At my studio, we take a very limited number of clients per year, and spend 40+ hours personally working to make sure you have an absolutely incredible experience, from our first phone call to delivering your finished prints. When you book a photoshoot with me, you aren’t just another customer with boudoir photos that look like everyone else’s – you deserve photos as unique as you, that feel and look like you.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think one of the best things that has helped me build my reputation is the level of service I provide. It’s way more than just the photoshoot day — I include multiple planning calls, professional hair and makeup, access to my studio wardrobe, a robe to get ready in, and I even make sure I have my client’s favorite snack ready for them in the studio.
I genuinely care about every one of my clients. Often, they come back more than once!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being creative?
There’s nothing better than the look on my client’s faces when they see their photos for the first time. When they see themselves. When they see their beauty and their power.
