We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Viridiana Gomez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Viridiana below.
Viridiana , appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I’ve always loved art , I have been drawing for as long as I remember . My dream was always to live off my art , to not have a boss and to never have a limit to what I could do and how much money I could make
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Viridiana Gomez , I’m from a small town in Zacatecas ,Mexico called El Cazadero , I studied there til the 4th grade but at a young age I knew I wanted to be an architect. I would watch tv and became obsessed with buildings and cartoons . Unfortunately circumstances came about and I had to leave that dream behind at the cost of receiving a wonderful opportunity to study in the US . By the 5th grade I continued drawing and as my skills developed , I would take every opportunity to show off what I learned so far by going above and beyond with any project that I could decorate to my liking . Fast forward to my high school year and finally having proper art class I felt as if I could make it to college and my dream of being an architect seamed possible again . My art teacher supported me so much throughout my 3 years of high school . She would help me enter competitions and promised me I could get far . It wasn’t til my senior year when I realized I couldn’t peruse art any longer as my legal status wouldn’t allow me to receive help to go to college so I gave up . I graduated , got pregnant and raised a family . Being a stay at home mom gave me time to teach myself to paint with acrylic and the art bug bit me once more. I received my first tattoo at 21 and became so curious about it so much to a point where I purchased a kit online . Out of all the mediums that I taught myself, tattooing was one of the hardest and most humbling, I’m actually most proud of tattooing a solid straight line ( it was one of the most challenging things to do for me ) . In 2018 I received an opportunity to learn at a tattoo shop and was taught so much by the artists I was around by daily , one of them was my mentor Stephen . I’ve learned every day and I am absolutely thankful for all the people I’ve came across , both artists and clients , I believe I’m finally in a position where the only limit is my own insecurities. I’m able to create and provide for my family , clients and friends .I love all art forms and I wish to continue to do so for many years to come.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect has to be creating a custom piece for a client . Memorial pieces are always very special to someone who’s lost a loved one , and I’m always happy that I’ve been chosen to do that for them. Portraits are very important too , you want to capture the likeness and make a piece that they will be proud to show off . But my favorite one have to be the more challenging pieces where the client sees a design in their head and I bring it to life .

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I’ve always been stubborn , so much to the point that it takes longer for me to reach a goal . The same was with tattooing . I could of learned much faster and set myself in a professional environment if I was just willing to be an apprentice , but I wasn’t . I believe I have a different way of learning and not a lot of people understand that , so I ventured on my own . It took a lot of trial and error but eventually I was proud to call myself a professional even though I’m open to learn each and every day .
