We were lucky to catch up with Kia Hart recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Kia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe success isn’t tied to monetary value or notoriety. I believe true success comes from within your soul. Success reveals itself through maturity, success reveals itself when you can choose joy over sadness, success reveals itself when you can visually see your situation and choose to trust Jesus anyway. Those things are not easy to do. It’s a constant marathon when trying to train your mind to shift its perspective. When you finally arrive there, you have that feeling of “I made it”.
Kia , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a new mama to my sweet baby boy Micah and a wife to my amazing, supportive husband, Marcus. My passion for photography truly began during my modeling career. In 2017 I was signed to my first modeling agency where I was able to work with so many high caliber companies and I always took interest in the view behind the camera.
After having my son, a new me was birthed. I refused to allow myself to not go after what I am passionate about. I want my son to believe in his heart that chasing his dreams is possible.
I currently pursue the beauty, fashion and branding side of photography. I love helping aspiring models and professional models build their portfolios while I also enjoy curating marketing pieces for small brands and businesses.
I’m most proud of myself for stepping out on faith and choosing to follow God’s will for my life. I have such a peace doing photography that I’ve never had before doing any other business.
Working with me you will not only leave with amazing photographs but you will leave with a deeper confidence!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
This is an amazing question. Moving from my home town, Brooklyn, New York. December of 2020, I heard God vividly tell me it’s time to transition. After already living in New Jersey for a year, and building community, I couldn’t actually believe I would have to start all over. But the pivot was necessary for the woman I am today: there was doors that had to be closed so new doors can be opened. It was not easy at all but I believe in growth in uncomfortable places.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Quit expecting people to do the things you do in the way that you do them. Most times it creates a false expectation that leaves you hurt, feeling abandoned or unsupported. There’s been plenty of seasons where I placed expectations for people to fulfill and ended hurt by it.
