We recently connected with Dan Abrusci and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Dan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think that being part of a creative industry is difficult because it takes a long time to become good at your craft, and with that comes more work and more clients. To me, a lot of people give up because they just don’t have the patience for that to happen. I think that success comes from happiness and being able to make a living of what you love.
I don’t really feel like I ‘go to work’.. I like being on set, I like doing post production, is just something that motivates me to get up everyday and become better at my craft.
Success to me is a mix of being great at what you do, working with the people you love, creating community and always adding production value.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Dan Abrusci and I’m the founder of Loyal Sound. Loyal Sound is an Emmy award winning production/post production company that specializes in sound and takes pride in being the sound department for many different companies.
I got introduced to sound at an early age by developing a passion for music and drums specifically.
As I grew up and started to buy records, I was always fascinated by the creation of those and the people behind the sound boards.
At 17 years old, I started working in a rehearsal studio and I decided to get pro tools certified in order to be able to start engineering.
My instructor at the moment was working on a TV show and decided to hire me as a dialogue editor.
As I kept working in audio post production, that lead me to getting a bachelors in audio production and getting a master’s degree in a sound design and mixing for film and TV, while studying in Europe.
I moved to Florida in 2014 and founded my company in 2015.
Ever since, I have been working in a wide range of projects, from feature films and television series to commercials and documentaries.
I think that I’m very lucky because I have been able to learn from amazing engineers through the years and I have been able to assemble a very talented team.
We are different than most sound companies because we can get involved in a project as early as the pre production stage and provide help not only during the recording stage but also during the post production, covering all the areas from the sound department.
We love what we do and we are very passionate about it, therefore our goal is always to bring the directors idea to life, and support the emotion of the project through sound.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think that caring about people’s project and going the extra mile, goes a long way. As someone who has been working in the film/audiovisual industry for over 13 years, I know that it takes a lot of time, effort, resources and a very talented group of people, to bring a project to life.
I’m always trying to help people and add production value, and I think that effort reflects in getting recommended to new groups of people and therefore getting new work.
To me, word of mouth is the best way to get new clients because you already have a recommendation, therefore if you show up and do the work, you’ll be able to make a solid brand and stay relevant in your industry.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me the most rewarding aspect of being a filmmaker is collaboration. I think that there’s a lot of power in community and that is something that is not easy to find.
When you work with a group of people and there’s collaboration, love and growth, everybody benefits from that.
I think that I’m lucky because even though I do work with different brands and groups of people, I’d say that 60% of the times I’m working with local colleagues, therefore things run smoothly.
Is kind of like a sports team, we already know how each other work and that reflects in the final product.
Watching a film on the big screen and knowing that everybody’s work added to the final piece of art, is one of the most regarding things to me.
