We recently connected with Maleny Mikels and have shared our conversation below.
Maleny, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been one of the most interesting investments you’ve made – and did you win or lose? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
Something I’ve learned along the way is that the best investment consists in investing in yourself. I know it might sound a little cheesy but, it makes the whole difference in your life, regardless of what you do for a living.
As a professional musician, I had always thought that investments would only be buying new gear, taking different music lessons, working on new music projects, paying for studio time, videos, etc…
Although all these are very important investments, the most important one will always be investing in yourself.
What I mean by investing in yourself, is investing in every aspect of your life in order to improve yourself, and it’ll reward you way more than you think.
As a young musician I easily fell for all the partying and drinking and having fun, which didn’t bring anything positive to my life in the end.
Later on, I realized that if I really wanted to pursue a career in music as well as doing something meaningful with my life, it was gonna take a lot of work.
At some point I began to understand that investing in yourself is the first step towards building the life that you want and also, that this is an investment that will always pay off.
I’ve been working on all this for a few years now and although it’s hard work, it is definitively worth it.
The first thing I did, was focusing on my health and changing my daily habits. I’d say without a doubt that this has been one of the best investments of my life.
I follow a healthy and balanced diet, I don’t do any kind of drugs and I workout everyday. This aspect is key, since when you’re healthy you have tons of energy to work on your goals and you get to do everything you want.
Also, having a clear mind allows you to focus on what really matters to you.
I know all this doesn’t sound very rock & roll style, but it’s totally worth it.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into music at a very young age, started first on the keyboards at age 5, then switched to classical guitar at 11 years old and then fell in love with the electric guitar a few years later.
Started dabbling into composing music at age 9 and got more serious about it at 13 years old.
Now I’m a professional musician, guitarist and composer.
Regarding playing guitar I’m more inclined towards instrumental rock and fusion music, although I also enjoy working on pop and rock projects.
I also love composing pop songs for other people. I recently signed a songwriting contract with Warner Chappell, so I’m very excited about working on new music with new artists.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
There are many rewarding aspects of being a musician, from working with talented musicians and playing amazing music to touching people through songs.
I’d say one of the most rewarding aspects of this craft, is being able to express your true self through music.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Absolutely! There’s particularly one book that changed my mindset and my life. This book is “The 10X rule” by Grant Cardone.
Although it is a business book, it is really about life and how your mindset determines your actions and outcomes.
This book helped me understand many things about life and it helped make the changes that I needed to make.
