Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Vincent Lundi. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Vincent, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
One of the biggest risks I’ve taken is deciding to start my own filmmaking business. I worked as a full time employee for several years at Best Buy’s Geek Squad. That job was great, and I did learn a lot, but I was left feeling unfulfilled knowing that I wasn’t truly pursuing my passion. After years of feeling like I was stuck in a rut, I made the decision to go all in on myself and start my filmmaking business. I didn’t have a ton of clients at first, but I had skin in the game – I decided I was NOT going to fail. I worked tirelessly until I gained enough of a following and client base to fully sustain myself as a freelance filmmaker. That all happened around 2014/15 and I’ve been full time ever since.
Vincent, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Well, I’ve been in the film industry for about 10 years – 7 years of them I’ve been on my own full time. I absolutely love what I do. It’s my ultimate passion. I first picked up a camera when I was about 21 years old. My passion at that time was writing and playing music in bands with my friends. I purchased a camera to film a music video for my band at the time, Call Us Kings. The band went on for a few more years, but eventually we fizzled out. That’s when my true passion turned from music to filmmaking. I loved that I could still be creative, but also be involved in the music scene. I went on to direct hundreds of videos over the years, and now my main source of income for my business comes from filming weddings, which I love as well. I still film music videos, and we also plan as a company to grow more in the business to business world, creating brand films and documentaries for companies and brands.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Absolutely, my ultimate goal has always been to be happy and fulfilled by what I do. I get to wake up everyday, pick my own schedule and work when I feel inspired (unless a deadline is involved of course). Having the freedom is honestly one of the best parts about being self employed. Sure, It’s tough to stay disciplined, but being able to work at your own pace and schedule means being able to spend more time with family, friends and doing the things you love that keep you inspired to wake up and get to work everyday.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Really, every single fall each year is a big struggle for me. It’s the busiest time of year for weddings and a lot of edits start to pile up. It’s very overwhelming and find myself very stressed out that time of year. But I’m growing my team, which is a huge. I really wouldn’t be able to go on much longer trying to do it all myself. So this year, I’ve hired my brother, Marty who will be helping with edits etc. It’s still a little stressful knowing I’ll have someone on payroll each month, but I know it’s the best move for the long run.
