Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Muse and Dionysus. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Muse and Dionysus, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
Muse: My parents always encouraged me to pursue my goals and dreams by working with me to achieve at the highest level. It wasn’t a matter of aiming small in my house. I feel very fortunate that they made every effort to foster my ambition.
Dionysus: My parents never discouraged my dreams or aspirations. Any activity that I wanted to pursue was met with the opportunity give it a try. They also ensured that I followed through on everything I started.
Muse and Dionysus, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
We are sewists who focus on telling Black and queer history through the lense of fashion. We have a line of shirts with custom designs that explore this element of creation. We pride ourselves on exploring the through line of fashion and how our appearance often shapes how we are perceived and how we want to be perceived.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
We share ourselves genuinely on social media and stay firm on our core values which is sustainability, anti-racism, and sewing on a budget. For us, it has been important to remain true to these values as our followers, Courtiers, trust what we say and do.
Our biggest tip for growing your presence on social media is to think for the long haul. Don’t try to grow for the sake of having numbers but rather create a community that you can trust and who can trust you.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
We’ve both been creatives in many aspect of the word for years and professionally working, making, creating for over a decade individually. One thing we often try to explain to non-creatives is that it’s a job like any other, the biggest difference is that you’re the project manager, employee, quality assurance lead, etc. There is a lot of planning that goes into creating; having good ideas is just the first step of making something beautiful.
