We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Cody Richenberg a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Cody, appreciate you joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I was introduced to the EDM scene in 2012, my passion for it started as a DJ and around 2014 I started producing my own music, I make Dubstep and Hip-hop[for fun] EDM has been more then just a genre of music for me it has changed and saved my life in a way I could not explain over a text interview, around 2018 I started to dive deeper into the scene starting my own record label at the time the label was called Wargodz Records, The label was a success to me in what I was trying to do with no budget, A little back story about me is a suffer from some health issues that have caused me not to be able to maintain a normal job and finding a good work from home job has been hard, so money has always been a struggle for me, around 9 months ago a few artist friends reached out to me in order to guide them with their brands, I started a brand called AllThings140 this brand is a multi purpose brand, It started as a Podcast/interview brand where I interview people over a call and we both record our videos and I put together the footage to make a podcast. Now AllThings140 is that, a record label, a talent agency, and I am currently writing a comic book that is themed around the music my company focuses on. I currently manage 16 artists under allthings140 and work with a few artists in the company Tchaikovsky – Bad Wolf ENT. I now spend my days and nights building all of these things up while also focusing on my main artist brand Ebmarah [myself] I am still very new in my journey with all mentioned above but I am hungry to grow this into something long lasting.
Cody, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I joined this industry the music industry because a friend of mine introduced me to this music by taking me to an underground event in the woods around where I live, He knew the person who threw the event and introduced me to the owner as his DJ friend, that then made me try to focus on becoming a dj, I played 2 events with them and it got me hooked, that was around the years 2012 – 2014, that began my journey into making the music I grew to love Dubstep, I started off with the name Dubtank and blew through many names while trying to figure out my sound and image. I am now Ebmarah and my image is being a Gorilla Ebmarah is Harambe backwards, for those unaware of Harambe, Harambe is the gorilla who a child fell into his enclosure and they killed the gorilla to save the child. I am a very all over the place artist as for as my style in music and who am i as a person, 1 example is when I am at home and on calls with people I manage or am friends with I never wear a shirt because I like being comfortable this has already made me be known to my friends as the gorilla. As I have been getting more into the behind the scenes of the music industry becoming a booking agent, artist manager, label owner I am learning much more about what really goes into building and maintaining a brand, It has truly been humbling to have so many artists trust me with the building of their brands. what I provide is a hands on management of your brand I try to find out what my artists vision is and help get them to see that vision turn into a reality.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Facebook is my main social media platform I use, I have been on Facebook since 2012 growing on social media to me is all about your willingness to connect with the people in the market you wanna get into, I started off just joining groups for the genre I loved and make, within that I started to become friends and build relationships with all kinds of different people in the scene. In 2022 I tried a more gorilla approach at adding people on facebook, I went into the groups and found the posts in the groups that had a bunch of reactions and comments, I would add the people who would react to the post with more then a thumbs up, as well as people who commented on the post, I then only post on social media when I have something to say or promote to not oversaturate my feed with memes or random videos, I have notice some amazing growth doing this method, making sure you give the people what they want is always the goal, I also try to use humor to promote my posts, there are 2 ways to draw peoples attention fast, make them laugh or give them something to hate on or drama to follow. but the drama and hate only get you so far, but make people laugh and you will keep their attention for much longer.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I kept the consistent with my conversations as well as releases and posts I would make, consistency is key is most all industries no matter what industry you are in, I try to always reply to people as fast as I can as well as take the time to reply to as many comments as I get, I also try to give back to the community by streaming and checking out peoples music and giving feedback on it. It all comes back to staying consistent
