My name is Rachel Davis, also know as “Dolly”! I’m the owner of The Dollyhouse, Global Beauty Expert & Educator, and Professional Makeup Artist, Hair Stylist, Male Groomer, and Creative Director based in Atlanta, Georgia from the tropical island of Guam!
With over 12 years of experience in the industry, specializing in TV, film, corporate, and commercial work, I bring a wealth of expertise and creativity to enhance the visual storytelling process. I’ve had the privilege of working on a diverse range of projects for nationally recognized companies ESPN, VOGUE, Home Depot, Coca Cola, SPANX, General Electric, Miss Universe, FOX NEWS, NBA All Star Fashion Week, and so much more!
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working on a diverse range of projects, collaborating with renowned directors, celebrities, production teams, fashion designers, politicians, and esteemed clients. This exposure has sharpened my skills in creating captivating makeup and hair looks that align seamlessly with the overall vision of each production. Whether it’s bringing characters to life, ensuring on-screen talent looks flawless, or crafting stunning visuals for commercial campaigns, I consistently strive for excellence in every aspect of my craft.
Beauty and cosmetics always circulated my life as a child! My Mom sold AVON on the side of managing my Fathers music and video production company so I would be all in the makeup packages trying on the newest items! I studied magazines as a child and admired the beautiful makeup and hair trends hoping to one day have my work on the cover! My Grandfather in the 60s opened up barbershops on Guam so I always was around the beauty industry!
In 2012 after high school, I worked for LOTTE formerly known as DFS Guam, a prestigious luxury retailer plaza on Guam working for Estée Lauder and Christian Dior promoting products and selling the brand! I then went on to working as a receptionist at a few salons on Guam.
In 2013, I left Guam and moved to Charleston, South Carolina where I began my journey as a professional Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist contracting through different bridal companies and then grew my own company “Rachel Davis Artistry” which opened me up to working for military balls, pageants, fashion shows, photographers, film, and commercial work!
In 2016, I moved to North Carolina where I continued my successful beauty business “Rachel Davis Artistry” continuing to grow and scale my brand working with bigger brands, weddings, film, and so much more!
In 2019, I moved to Sanlucar de Barrameda, a small town on the coast of Spain where I continued my career launching my in home salon “The Dollyhouse” offering hairstyling, hair color,s and cuts, waxing, facials, and makeup courses catered to the military spouses of Rota, Spain. With the success of my salon, I created my beauty product line The Dollyhouse selling botanical infused lipoils, eyelashes, lip scrubs, makeup soap, facial and body oils, body scrubs, bath salts, and so much more! Unfortunately the pandemic of COVID19 hit in 2020 and put a halt onto my product line and salon forcing me to tap into my other gifts of baking and cooking! Soon as the pandemic ended, I continued to scale my product line and shipped all over the world!
In 2022, we left Spain and moved to Atlanta, Georgia to rebuild my business scaling to even greater heights and to work on larger productions! Since moving to Atlanta, I’ve been contracting for multiple bridal companies, working with celebrities and politicians, landing my work in VOGUE ITALIA, working for large corporate brands Coca Cola, ESPN, Home Depot, SPANX, Lifetime, FOX NEWS, and so much more! The Dollyhouse is now launching into education developing mentorship and internship programs along with business and branding to accelerate the education of aspiring beauty professionals! We continue to scale our product line bringing the absolute best to our customers and strive to provide confidence, courage, and elevation through the power of getting dolled up!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Through the years, my mission was to build a strong and professional reputation while providing the ultimate experience through exceptional hospitality infusing the “infamaolek” spirit we provide on Guam! I’ve had to rebuild my beauty brand now for the 5th time in a totally new metropolitan city as a military spouse and it’s been a very tough process however I’ve mastered the techniques in rebuilding my business brand! My biggest challenge was stepping outside to events alone however it was necessary to allow me to grow and connect with individuals who needed my services! I made it a point to attend at least 1 networking event or event in the city to pass out my cards and connect with like-minded individuals. Once I was able to build a roster of people I was meeting, I collaborated and worked with multiple photographers and videographers to continue building brand awareness and introduce my creative take on beauty! Many people started to recognize my presence in the city of Atlanta and brought my name up in many rooms I never entered. Lastly, I believe it takes building a professional brand to provide a quality reputation in your city to truly takeover! All the years studying and mastering my craft has allowed me to finally see the dreams I’ve always had flourish before my eyes!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building your presence on social media in this current year or 2023 is absolutely essential! It has almost become second nature to wake up, check your phone and go about your day so providing quality content for your potential clients and customers is absolutely essential. I studied YouTube videos and content madness on Instagram and Tiktok to learn the latest trends and provide my audience with quality material! I continue to work with creative professionals in my industry that assist in building content to deliver a remarkable experience for The Dollyhouse! Thankfully I had many years of photo & video editing courses throughout my life growing up with my Fathers music & video production company! Those key skills I developed continue to provide a vital role in creating quality content for my audience!
