We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Christopher Perry. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Christopher below.
Christopher, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
As a creative, I feel like I’m always chasing after something. The next photo, the next creative idea, the feeling of how to elevate myself to that next level. The happiness arrives when I get into my creative zone and I know that I’m piecing something together that will evoke an emotion. Something that will be relatable to the viewer. When the creative road blocks enter my path, a little sense of doubt and hint of imposter syndrome kicks in, the thought of having a regular job always presents itself. It’s not until I step into a photo session, wedding, or passion project where I get to interact with my clients and my “WHY” plants me back to reality.
Christopher, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I went to College for Sociology. I loved having conversations with others and learning different perspectives from all walks of life. During my last Semester of college, I decided to drop out of school and pursue my passion for visual arts. My good friend and I decided to start our Photography/Cinematography business and set sail to see what would happen. We dived into Weddings, Music Videos, Corporate Jobs, Photography Sessions, and came to realize that we had something with Weddings. I started to understand the concept of “feeling” a moment. It almost seemed second nature of knowing when to snap a photo or record a video. I was learning how to stay true to the moment as much as possible and I also learned how to create something out of nothing. I fell in love with creating and capturing the essence of the people I get to work. That’s where my love for Sociology came into favor. I always take my time to have conversations with my clients on an equal playing field. I’m no better, they’re no better, we’re both humans existing.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Being able to express yourself in a form thats both captivating and relatable. Being able to tell my story and also the stories of others.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Being a vessel for people who are overlooked. I know so many people with a heart of gold and that have so much talent, but are just hidden gems. In the field that I’m in and the time frame we’re in with social media, I’m able to provide a service that showcases these individuals in the light that they deserve.
