Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tomisin Oluwole . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Tomisin , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I don’t have much of a story about learning the craft because for me everything stems from my incessant need to create coupled with being a very curious and reflective person. So, I’m constantly learning and honing my craft by soaking up the world around me, asking questions, and having conversations.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Tomisin Oluwole Summers and I am a visual and literary artist with my primary focus in fashion, poetry, and painting. I have a BA in Fashion Merchandising and recently got my MA in Linguistics. Presently, I find myself trying to define what my purpose is in life other than spreading love, which I think is the ultimate foundation. And I came to the clear but not sudden realization that it’s to create, however form or medium my creativity wishes to materialize itself. It’s to capture and translate human experience in a way that is uniquely mine. I think what I am most proud of is being content with who I am as an artist and being able to appreciate my own art. The cherry on top is also being able to connect, engage with, and inspire people through my art. That truly warms my heart.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, it’s the revelations and feelings of connection that I find most rewarding. Both on the individual, collective, and cosmic level. It’s a very wholesome feeling.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The ultimate goal is to keep creating for myself, first and foremost and to embrace every aspect of my creative journey. Then, it’s to evoke feelings and thought, and inspire conversation. I really enjoy having meaningful conversation that stems from art, and that in turn is what I hope to achieve from my own art.
