We recently connected with D.M.T and have shared our conversation below.
D.M.T , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Three Words. Forged In Fire. This piece is one of a kind to me because it served as a way of reminding myself that I have a purpose. God brought me out of a difficult season, but in order to triumph I had to be put to the test. I had to go through the fire. Forged in Fire. Going through hard circumstances & tribulations can steal your purpose from you if you let it. Staying grounded & close to God has brought me much peace & guidance.
D.M.T , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was the age of 17 when I realized I could make music. I turned 22 & decided to take it seriously. I had to make a decision along the way. If you do this, don’t turn back. Give it your all. Don’t do it for others. Do it for the kingdom. I take my craft as serious as the Great Ones have. The MJ’s, the Tupac’s, & the Serena Williams. One day I aspire to be among those names. Discipline & the will to be so great separates me from others. My love for God separates me from my peers.
Have you ever had to pivot?
In the Summer of 2021, I was working on a project that I was proud of. Concrete Blvd was the name. I had around 6-7 tracks done officially. At that time I was going through so many different things. God told me that he wanted me to take a different route. Make different music. I was doing so many things for myself. I was doing the upmost my pleasure & comfortability. We all know comfortability breeds stagnant elevation. In that same year I took a leap and scrapped the project & turned to a new one. Long Talks With God..
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
I’ve always told the ones around me that the ‘journey is the reward’. Along this journey you will get those select few that tell you what you have done for them and how much you’ve touched them with your music. That has been the most beautiful & rewarding aspect of being a creative. Creating something that so many people will never forget.
