We were lucky to catch up with Rebecca Kindvall recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebecca, thanks for joining us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
I believe my faith in Christ is a huge part of the success and happiness in my business. I use my industry of beauty and PMU to also minister to the lost and hurting and I strive to be a sense of comfort and peace to my clients though the power of the Holy Spirit within me. Without His guidance, I really wouldn’t be where I am.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
First and foremost, I am a Christian. This is the core of who I am and the most important part of my life and business. After 2 years spent in the tattoo industry with my husband, I felt led to go in a different direction. The beauty industry was ALWAYS a part of who I am and one of the biggest passions of my life. So I took the plunge and became a cosmetologist. After working for other people salons and having to answer to a “boss”, I knew this was not what I wanted long term. After 6 years fullfilling years in the industry, I decided to open my own salon and merge that with my husband’s tattoo shop. I offer a wide variety of services such as PMU, PMU removal, most hair services, pedicures, waxing, brow/lash tinting, and deep conditioning hair treatments. I like to think I enhance women’s (and mens) natural beauty, which is so satisfying! My passion for what I do may not necessarily set me a part from many others in this industry who share the same passion I do, but it is a big part of what makes me good at what I do. I’m very happy about what I’ve learned Al’s how I’ve grown in my 11 years as a professional and I’m still learning and growing everyday! Without a willingness to learn I believe that’s when pride can sneak in and there is no room for pride in this industry because there’s always more to learn and better techniques that continue to evolve. I love what I do and it shows in my work!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe good work speaks for itself and word of mouth from clients is the best way for free advertisement. Each client that sits in my chair is equally as important as the last and I make sure they feel that way!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
It was a very slow process to build the little following I have but I’m proud of it! My advise is to be consistent in posting and take A LOT of pictures and videos when you can. I’m still learning this part!
