We recently connected with Jesica Salzano Jes of All Trades and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jesica Salzano, thanks for joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Success for me comes from a sense of reliability, professionalism and having fun doing what you want to do with your life. If you’re passionate about anything, you can turn that passion into a source of income with hard work and determination. Believe in it, live it and you will be it!
Jesica Salzano, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hey guys! My name is Jesica and I go back “Jes of All Trades”. Currently, I’m working out of Minneapolis Tattoo Shop and absolutely LOVE my job! Working with folks from all walks of life is a constant inspiration for not only my art but inspiration to push myself to be better at whatever I set out to accomplish.
So let’s get into the origins of Jes of All Trades. I started off with this journey back in 2014 while working for Xerox as a production color printer technician. My spouse and myself were expecting our 3rd bundle of joy and due to complications, I needed to leave that position and decided to stay home with my children. Both to recover from having my daughter but also because we decided homeschool was the best option for my oldest child with his learning style. Oh boy were we right, he thrived scholastically that year and there was no looking back. The only thing that hung us up was income. With me not working anymore, I needed to figure something out to make an income.
Life has a way of handing you opportunities. One opportunity was one of my best friends and next door neighbor. She needed a face paint artist but didn’t have the budget to hire a professional and asked me, knowing I’m an artist, if I would face paint for her son’s birthday party. So I bought a small face paint kit and painted for the party. While painting, some of the guest’s parents asked me if I did it professionally. I perked up as the lightbulb in my head turned on and exclaimed “I do now!” Thus Painted Imagination was born!
As a face paint artist, I guest spotted at lion con, and worked plenty of conventions such as GalaxyCon, CryptiCon, FanFusion, etc. My favorite was alway the Minneapolis Tattoo Festival! It was there that I started my tattoo journey. I was in the station next to Lucid Tattoo where my future mentor Lucky was working. I was working on my portfolio at the time to get a tattoo apprenticeship and Lucky did me a favor and checked out my art. He hummed and hawed over it and finally nonchalantly said ‘I’ll do it”. I started my apprenticeship a few months later in September of 2021 and haven’t looked back!
I LOVE helping people realize their tattoo dreams with a few inspiration pics and proper consultation. Custom pieces are what feeds my soul!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Honestly, it’s just treating people with respect . It’s incredibly important to me that I’m a safe place for my clients to be candid with me.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Word of mouth from clients that loved their tattoos and being in a public setting when I’m drawing my clients designs. People really enjoy witnessing your process and asking questions, it sparks up some awesome conversations! Like what pieces they’ve already collected and the stories behind them. That alone is probably my favorite part of the job, getting to meet people from all walks of life and sharing our tattoo experiences has been amazing! I can’t wait to hear more!
