We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Camara Feagins a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Camara, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?

From a young age I always played it safe when it came to my career. I started working in the mortgage industry in 2004, and that become comfortable to me. I always had dreams of owning my own business. In 2022 I was laid off because the mortgage industry wasn’t the best at that time I was unable to find another job. I took this time find myself. At this point I no longer knew what I was passionate about or what I even wanted to do. I decided to take this time for myself and step out of my comfort zone. I promised myself I wouldn’t go back to a corporate job. Im completely stepping out on faith. It has been a lot of ups and downs. I started my t-shirt line Harmonious Vibes Feb 2023, It has been lots of trial and error. I’m still working the kinks out. But with that it made me proud that I actually stuck with it. Fitness became an outlet for me, so I then decided I wanted to add a activewear line. I’m currently working with a designer to make that a reality. Although this past year has been hard, I do believe if none of this happened I wouldn’t have took this risk. I’m that much closer to having the successful business I dream of. 

Camara, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

I’m a wife and mother of a one. Being different and stepping out of the box was always me. Self love is so important to me!! My t-shirt and activewear line is just another fun way of expressing yourself. I try do everything with a purpose, and i never want to provide a product or service i wouldn’t be happy about. I create t-shirts with inspirational and fun quotes or women, men and kids.

We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.

I currently use Etsy to sell my t-shirts. In my opinion Etsy was the easiest way to get started with and its low cost. i wanted to start this business with very little money and no inventory on hand. I found a dropshipping company i could link to Etsy. You can create your listings for a small fee and easily manage everything from the Etsy seller app. The only con i would say is their marketing, you can chose how much you would like spend in Ads. I don’t feel like i get much traffic from it. I would suggest you just do your own marketing on social media.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

Thinking if i had certain things my life would be better. Expecting things and situation to make your life better makes it hard to be grateful. I’ve found life is better when you love your journey good or bad. Stay focused on your path just know that it will look different than most, but thats ok. Thats the one thing that makes it unique. Love every area of your life.
